xpost- My home insurance just got canceled bc of my dog! Help
Does anyone have an American Bulldog that their home owners insurance covers?
I just got a letter that they canceled it and I am freaking out that we have no insurance.
Help!

I have a pit and my homeowners got canceled. I found many companies that would cover us, but not the dog. He has never been aggressive, but we didn't want to take a chance god forbid. After searching high and low we got Farmers Insurance(this was 3 years ago). Unfortunately we are paying almost double than the original price, but he is covered. A lot of dogs fall into the banned breed category. Many of our friends inquired after our situation and a handful found out that if they never mentioned a dog, the dog was not covered.

I had the same thing happen with travelers. I switched to state farm, they asked if I had a dog but never asked the breed. I've had them for 7 years with no issues. My rate is great too.

I have an American Bulldog and told the insurance company she was a Bulldog. They don't need to know anything else!!!! Next time leave out the American part

I'm not sure I would recommend doing this. If they ask you what the breed is and you don't fully disclose what you know, they can deny coverage if something were to ever happen with the dog and they find out you weren't honest about the breed.
It's like with health insurance. Many companies give you premium discounts if you are a non-smoker. If you are a smoker and lie about it to get the discount, then come up with an illness that the doctors say is related to smoking, they can deny your coverage.
I hope you find coverage soon!

IMO there are breeds out there that are small and super aggressive that can cause damage and hurt humans. I think it's predjudice and I'm sorry if you don't agree with it. Most people out there with a bully breed do not disclose it to their insurance company, let's be completely honest here. An American Bulldog is very different than a pit bull yet these companies are discriminating.....

Yes, there may be lots of people who don't disclose the information to their insurance companies. I understand that. I think it is one thing if the insurance company doesn't ask and you don't tell. It's completely different for them to ask the type of breed and you don't fully disclose it. You open yourself up to having claims denied in the event the dog were to injure someone and the insurance company finds out you weren't honest. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I certainly wouldn't give anyone advice to withhold that information from an insurance company in the event that they asked for the breed.
I used to work for an insurance company and I know that these things happen. If people are OK with taking those chances because you don't think anything will ever happen, so be it.
