Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
So for xmas I wanted to get DS a play kitchen. He will 18 months at xmas.
A friend of mine said that it's too girly and he's too young for something like that. I don't think it's too girly.
What do you all think?

Re: Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
DS got a kitchen when he was maybe 14/15 months...he LOVES it and it really builds his imaginative play skills!!! He cooks eggs in the frying pan, flips burgers on the grill, pours coffee, etc...loves it!!!!
We got him the little tikes "grillin grand" kitchen bc it is very neutral coloring, AND has a grill on the side of it, which sold DH on the masculine aspect...lol
HTH! But I'd definitely 100% say to get it.

Definitely a YAY!!! We don't have one for DS due to lack of room, but there's one at daycare that he loves to play with!

Re: Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
Oh I think it's a great idea. DS is about the same age as yours and he LOVES the one they have at his daycare - Open, close, put in, take out... over and over and over :) I thought about getting him one for Christmas too, but then I decided to let that be something to look forward to at daycare, plus we don't have the room. But I think it is an entirely appropriate toy for an 18 month old of either gender.

Yay! Yay! YAy!
DS got one for his 2nd Christmas when he was just 18 months. The Step 2 kitchens are gender neautral and he continues to play with it to this day!
He loved all the light switches and cooking sounds.
It's not girly since everyone, male or female, should know how to cook!

Absolutely I think kitchen sets are for both sexes. We want our men to be able to cook when they grow up right? I think its a great idea!

Re: Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
My son loves his kitchen still and he is 2.5 yrs old. I really don't understand why people find it to Girly. My son is obsessed with everything cooking and baking because all he ever sees is either my DH or my FIL cooking and baking. My FIL was a baker and my DH learned from him. So big YAY for me!!

Re: Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
Cooking is still a male-dominated profession. There's nothing "feminine" about pretending to be in a male-dominated field.
Plus, what woman doesn't like a man who can cook....
(luckily for me, DW married me for reasons other than cooking..... )

Re: Yay or Nay: Kitchen for a 18 month old boy
We got the boys a play diner when they were 14mo. (It's essentially a play kitchen, but has a diner booth on the other side. My DH is a bit sexist, so I don't think he would have been thrilled w/ a play kitchen, so the fact that I can call it a diner makes him okay with it.
My kids LOVE it!!!!!! They also have a shopping cart and I swear they play w/ the diner and the shopping cart ALL. DAY. LONG.
Definitely worth it.
This is what we have. It comes with a juke box, a coffee pot that makes sounds when you put it on the burner, and has a diner bell.
Diner
