YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
My SIL figured out transferring her ticket, so Grace and I are booked for our trip to Disney with my dad!!! I am so thankful to her and to my dad for giving us this trip!
OK, so here a few questions...
This is the first time I will be traveling with Grace alone and we could not get a direct flight. BOOO! Anyway, we have and hour layover in Dulles on the way there and 1.5 hours in Chicago on the way back. Those who have traveled alone with an almost two year old...HOW DO YOU DO IT??? I am so nervous. She will be a lap child and will NOT have her own seat. I got a free ticket from my SIL and my dad is paying for Disney, that is the ONLY reason why we are going. So paying for a seat for her is NOT an option.
I decided not to check the car seat & stroller and check it at the gate (b/c on our trip to Hawaii last year, they lost the car seat for 2 hours and we were stuck at the airport until they tracked it down).
I am excited to go, but nervous as He!! about not being able to handle Gracie by myself on the plane and during the layovers. Do the flight attendants help you? What if I have to use the ladies room? Would they watch Grace for me? How will I get all of the checked stuff at the gate without help? DH was always there to help me and I am going to have two carry ons, a stroller, a car seat and DD to carry. Plus, I have to switch planes.
Dumb questions I know, but I figured all of you were the experts.
Also, We will have 3 nights/4 days in Disney...What are the MUST SEES for a 2 year old? What is THE BEST character Breakfast? The best places to eat? etc?
TIA for all the great advice.

No advice, but yay for you guys!!! Enjoy your trip
Oh, I've never travelled with a 2 year old, but I'd almost say your layovers aren't too horrible. 1 hour and then 1.5 hours the other way? I'm kinda thinking that by the time you get off the plane with DD, and schlep to the other gate, they'll be starting to board shortly thereafter.

This was my thought as well. There was another flight that had a 4 hour layover in Chicago, but we would leave Orland later. I decided against it. I could see me now chasing her for four hours in O'hare. O M G We experienced this on the way back from Hawaii when our flight from San Fran to Newark was delayed 5 hours. THANK GOD DH was with me.
There was a mom there traveling with her 2 year old daughter on the same flight as us and she was [ ] this close to having a nervous breakdown by the time we were boarding. DH and I helped her and watched her DD fro her while she ate and took bathroom breaks. I hope to GOD this does not happen to me.

Yikes, that's some delay!!!!
Believe me, I cannot even imagine travelling alone with my baby, much less toddler-- it's overwhelming to me, completely But do you watch Jon & Kate + 8? I had it on the other night, they were flying to Salt Lake City I think, and their plane had to be sent to another airport, where then they sat on the runway for a long time...with 8 kids!! Kate was having a mini-breakdown, understandably. Just watch that, it will make you feel better travelling with just 1

Do you have a protable DVD player? That may help distract DC, atleast for a little while. As far as all of the stuff, I would ask for help. You can also use the straps on the car seat and throw it over your shoulder, it's not the most comfortable thing, but it's doabe. They also sell carrying cases for car seats, I don't know if you want to spend the extra money though.

What worked for us was new and exciting toys. A Play-Doh kit, DVD player with new videos & new coloring books and markers.

We have the car seat carrier already, it has one strap.

Re: YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
We have gotten very fortunate that every time we flew with DS- we inquired at check in if it was a full flight and since it wasnt, they let us bring our car-seat aboardfor free (some airlines just have you pay the tax which is around $14.00 if I remember right), so you may just want to ask at check-in...I know my DS falls asleep easier in his car-seat than on our lap and that always helps ...Good Luck !

Re: YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
I called the airline for our seat selection and every flight is booked except for one. So I doubt that we will have an empty seat next to us. I hope we do.
OK, so I booked the "Ohana" character breakfast at the Polynesian.
Any suggestions as to where we can go for dinner? Any places to avoid? TIA

ITA
Also some must sees- IMO
Def. Playhouse Disney @ MGM- RJ loved that I would try and catch all of the parades/firework shows @ Magic Kingdom
also
The Fantasmic Show in MGM
My fav breakfasts were:
Hollywood & Vine @ MGM- Jojo circus and Little Einsteins
Crystal Palace @ Magic Kingdom- Winnie the Pooh and friends
I also LOVED Tuscar house @ Animal Kingdom.
There arent many kid friendly things to do in Epcot- other than walk around and shop (Ohhh and the nemo ride which was pretty cool)

Re: YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
There was a thread going on this topic 1-2 months ago...I'll try to find it for you.
I just did a search and can't find it...it was maybe called "the official disney thread" or something like that, there were TONS of tips,e tc on it that would probably be very helpful to you. Maybe another mom has it saved and can bump it?

Re: YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
I flew alone with Hayley when she was 22 months. I also had a lay over both ways. I brought my portable DVD player...it was a godsend!!! Since you will have your carseat with you, you will pretty much sit by the next gate so definetly bring a DVD player. Find an area where you can go where she can stretch her legs and watch a movie.
Hayley was great on the plane. On the where there I had an extra seat so she laid on my lap and slept. The way home we didn't have an extra seat and she just slept a bit in my arms or watched her DVD.
Have a great time!!!!

Re: YAY!!!!! Our Disney trip is booked, but I have a bunch of questions...
No advice on the travel, but the Crystal Palace dinner is nice for young kids - Pooh and all his friends and we thought the food was pretty good for a buffet.
We also had a character lunch at Epcot's Garden Grill, it was Mickey, Pluto, and Chip and Dale. The food is served family style and is all you can eat.

Nice! We're going in April.
Try checking out www.disboards.com for all the inside info, but I've heard not to miss Chef Mickey's character breakfast. We're also doing the Hollywood & Vine character breakfast to see the Little Einsteins and JoJo and Goliath.
