yet ANOTHER starting solids question
TIA for your patience with me! i never realized that this wasn't all common sense stuff...
so DS loves his cereal, finally!
i gave him about 3 tablespoons last night and he gobbled it all up.
how long did you wait before giving cereal twice a day?
and when did you add fruits?

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
The ped here in NY when I saw her when my DD hit 4 months of age told me to give it to her 2x per day, and that I could do fruits also once she passed the time for allergic reaction to the cereals.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
excellent, thanks
did you do fruit with the cereals, or as a separate feeding?

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
You can def. do two times a day now.
In the beginning I wanted him to get used to the seperate tastes and textures so I would feed him all of his cereal, and then some fruit. There were times I would put both on the spoon if he didn't like the particular fruit or veggie so much.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
I was diff in terms of feeding Kristina...
I was never told to give her milk (as a bottle) with her feedings, so when I did her feedings, it was just her food, not food + bottle, KWIM?
So when I gave her breakfast, it was cereal + fruit. Other women, I have read though, feed their baby milk + cereal + fruit.
I guess it's your preference.
As long as Kristina was taking in the required amount of formula per day though, I was happy.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
I never gave cereal twice per day. I gave cereal in the morning with fruit and then I gave him a veggie for lunch. (when we first started with fruits and veggies)

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
I was up to 2x/day by the end of the first week...
I added veggies first and did that a couple of weeks after starting cereal...
Now she's on stage 2 everything (except citrus and strawberries...DD#1 had a skin reaction to citrus, so I'm nervous and my mom is deathly allergic to strawberries, so no rush on them)...

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question

lisa, i haven't been giving him a bottle with his food, but i make sure he isn't totally starving either (i have done it about 2 hours after a feeding). that seems to be working well, so i will keep with it! thanks!

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
Once he started really eating the cereal - I added a morning feeding of cereal. Then 4 days later I started introducing a fruit/veggie every 4 days.
Once I had gone through all of the veggies/fruits - I added it to breakfast as well.
At 6 months I added yogurt at lunch, plus a fruit.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
Never bothered with cereal 2x per day. Instead I moved cereal up to breakfast and then did a veggie for dinner.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
My ds was put on cereal at 1 month... two tbls 2x a day... that rapidly increased to a 1/4 cup twice a day... by the time he was 2 months old i added fruits and veggies... now at 4 1/2 months he has cereal and a level 2 jar in morn, two level 2 jars at lunch, and cereal with two level 2 jars at dinner (he also has 40 ounces f milk)... my theory with the cereal when i started what that he will let me know when he is done.. i always made more and looked for the signs that he was full.. particularly the spitting everything back at me... just be aware that the level 2 jars of beachnut are bigger then that or gerber...

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
My ped said 2 tsp of cereal in the morning and afternoon. So she has her morning bottle and then her cereal. She gets no solids with her mid-morning bottle and then her first afternoon bottle she gets her cereal again right after. She loves it!! Been doing great. I want to start with some fruits and veggies but not sure how to proceed with that so I'll ask the ped on Monday when I go.

Re: yet ANOTHER starting solids question
Cereal in the morning for a week.
Then we did dinner
After two weeks we introduced applesauce at both breakfast and dinner.
One week later, we introduced bananas (FRESHly mushed by yours truly)
