I guess in the long run it is good but jeez!!!!!! Watching your checking account go lower and lower sucks!!!

we've been using our debit card for all gifts (except for a $50 purchase I made on amazon.com). It's great feeling knowing that there won't be a huge CC bill coming in January

Just think how you will feel in mid January when you don't get the CC bills to pay!
January 24 is the most depressing day (according to British studies) since that's when people have to figure out how to pay for the holidays and the holiday feelings are over - at least this way you are spending your money - but still have the holidays to look forward to.

We ONLY use our debit cards. The last major thing we put on our CC was our St Lucia trip 2 yrs ago. We hardly ever use a CC.

When you first start paying all cash it can be a shock ! Once you really see what your budget will allow,after the holidays, it gets better.
You have to just keep telling yourself that it's worth it in the long run to not break down and charge everyday things.

you 'll thank yourself once the holidays are over and everyone is complaining about all the debt they racked up on their cc's! I'm paying for all my gifts in cash this year too. I've just learned to be a little more creative this year!!

Never done this before! It's a good idea though. We are good at sticking to our list and within budget though. Christmas can get out of hand real easy, really fast

We used debit this year too. Maybe one or 2 things were put on credit but majority was on our debit. We rather pay it up front then owing a large bill.

but I must declare, I did pretty well overall. I think I only spent about $400 on everyone together I found some super duper bargains.....

I only use my debit card. I know there are some benifits to using a cc, but for me, I spend wiser when I see my cash go down. Works the best for me.

I just started using my debit card more and my Amex less
even though I pay Amex in full
I still tend to over spend thinking that I have a month to pay for it
I feel better about it too

I only use Cash and I am about 1/2 done, and if it means finishing Mon or Tues before Christmas I'v decided I'm ok with it.

Good for you!!
I will be putting everything on a cc for points, but I have the money stashed to pay it off right away. Since I am out on maternity leave, I planned ahead for this Christmas and left money in the bank. We paid off our big cc debt last year and I don't ever want to be in debt like that again!!!
