Re: Yikes!! Paying for everything for Christmas with Cash stinks!!!
I love the system that I use. I NEVER use debit as it's a waste of money.
I use my 1.25% cashback credit card on everything.
To avoid the big bill at the end of the month, I simply make interval payments after I buy items.
So if I buy a $150 DVD player, I make a payment to the credit card for $150 later that day. If I buy $100 in clothes, a $100 payment goes in. It's like paying in cash because the money comes out of my checking account pretty quickly, but I earn the CC rewards and get added CC protection over debit protection.
At the end of the month, my statement typically has a bunch of charges, a bunch of payments, and a NEGATIVE CREDIT BALANCE thanks to my cashback applied.
I just keep doing this and eventually I build up enough negative credit balance to buy myself something nice in a few months (like a $50-100 item in some cases).

i do the same thing! i usually cash in my cash back and get great gift cards. i'm glad cash works for so many people, but for me, i'm going to buy what i'm going to buy. i'd rather get the cash back bonus since i never ever have a CC balance.

exactly what I do. Discover has been very generous with their cash-back programs, so the rewards add up quick!

cash or debit card for me this year except for my macy's card so I could use the excellent coupons they sent to me. But at the end of the month I will pay it off in full.

CC only, for us! Discover gives you free money if you use their card! We have the cash to pay for it, but by putting it on the card first, you get money back, plus, you can keep track of purchases better, you have better recourse with vendors, and you don't have to carry large amounts of cash with you to the store. That always makes me nervous.

Re: Yikes!! Paying for everything for Christmas with Cash stinks!!!
I put everything on my credit card, sad to say, BUT it's a miles card and we'll be using those miles for a trip next year, so I think it will pay off in the end. We have also budgeted and so have the cash to pay off the bill when it comes in, so this works for us.
But good for you for sticking with it! I know its tough to do!

we are using one credit card, which we will pay in full when the bills comes.
we are racking up crazy points.
I'll be thankful for all the shopping on the cc when I am chillin' on the beach with a piña colada...after getting a FREE airplane ticket. WHOOT WHOOT!

Re: Yikes!! Paying for everything for Christmas with Cash stinks!!!
I've been using my debit card that gives us airline miles. We spent almost $2K on black friday. It was painful to see the balance, but it was nice to know that we won't be getting a bill later.

Re: Yikes!! Paying for everything for Christmas with Cash stinks!!!
We have always made a budget for Christmas. We try and use one cc and pay it off with our bonuses that we use for Christmas.

We had some really big expenses this year on our CC and did this. We wound up being able to do the majority of our holiday shopping with rewards points this year.
