i think you should call back that office and let them know about her behavior--that is unacceptable...and who knows how many other patients she is loose with her mouth with, and they might feel bad complaining.

That story reminds me of the time I was getting a brazilian and I told her that I got engaged and was moving to Portland (DH's hometown). She is from the Ukrain and she said to me, "is he rich"? I said no and then she asked "why are you moving all the way there if he isn't rich?" "He has to be giving you something". "You are moving all the way there" "do you have to work?" Yes, I said and she proceeded to tell me I was crazy.
I never went back to her and she stalked me like crazy calling me asking me why I don't come back to her.

One thing about women who spent a good part of their adult lives in former Soviet Republics is that they love to make their opinion known about everything in the lives of those they come in contact wth, no matter how brief is the aforementioned contact
I am surprised you never encountered this behavior before, having come from the same background. I usually just nod, smile and give very short and indefinite replies such as... "Oh, well we will see", "may be", "who knows" etc. Saves me a lot of trouble and unnecessary arguments

She played the "in unisson we strike" card. Simply because you come from a same area in the World DOES NOT make you agree with her.
I would notify the Dr. though of her unprofessionalism, harrassment and her questioning of his medical abilities.

Normally I'd blow it off & chalk it up to a personality but I think the doctor should know that she is questioning his protocol. You're a strong person who isn't going to take the medical advice of someone who isn't qualified. I wouldn't want anyone else to not take medication because this bonehead put her 2 cents in. It's one thing if the patient questions the doctor but to have their office staff do it is unacceptable.

I come from another area but I get the same things on different topics. Sometimes it's just plain nuts. I agree on your take on it. I do the same "yes, of course" "really?" etc... I just let them talk.

Believe me as an immigrant and married to an American I have encountered many strange people and their silly comments. not just from people who come Former Soviet Union, but from many other parts of the world, including Americans. I normally try to ignore them .
BUT There is "make their opinion known" and there is overstepping boundaries and making rude comments NOT JUST ONCE ,BUT OVER AND OVER AND OVER by the nurse at the dr's office. While I am sitting in the office waiting for her to pull a HUGE NEEDLE out of my arm. All of this after a 60 MINUTE CLOSED MRI WITH CONTRAST 
AND most importantly what is she doing working for a dr if she thinks they are "terrible"(her exact word) and no good

I have decided that I will talk to my dr when I go in next time, I am not going to give him the name or say exactly what she said , I am just going to tell him that I had a very awkward and bad experience with one of the nurses and that she was extremely rude and out of line. and leave it at that.
