your dr's rule of thumb when ttc after bc

I had 1 gyno that told me I should wait for cycles before ttc and my new one is telling me 2. Does that seem a little too soon? I usually cycle off 5 months and make sure I am taking my prenatals etc. before trying. Dh isn't on board for another one just yet but I want to make sure I am well prepared if and when he agrees to add to the family. TIA.

I was on the pill for 8 or 9 years. My doctor told me I could start TTC as soon as I went off the pill. She suggested taking a multivtiamin with at least 400 mcg of folic acid at least 3 months before TTC. I was very lucky and got pregnant the first month off the pill. Good luck!

Thank you. I have moved around so much in the past few years and I have never delivered at the same practice or same state so each one of my dr's have a different thing to say. I wanted to see the norm. Now all I need to do is convince dh, lol. That is the hardest part.

My doctor originally told me: start taking folic acid 2 months before starting to TTC. Stop BC, wait for two periods, then start trying.

i wason for 10 yrs. i waited 3 cycles for my cycles to get regular and they were fine.

for some reason they got wacky later on..LOL

i was on it for 12 years but my doc said as soon as i stopped it was fine TTC

I was told to wait 3-6 months before trying. To take prenatal vitamins when we started TTC.

I was told that I could start right away, but that it might take some time before my cycle straightened itself out, making TTC harder. (It took three months for mine to regulate, and I don't think I o'ed the first two).

My doctor also said that I did not have to wait after going off BC. She did have me take prenatals 3 months before stopping the pill.

We are not TTC yet but I did recently talk to my doctor about what I should do to prepare and she told me that I should stop BC for three months before starting to try and that when I stopped the BC I should start the pre-natals.

My doc said we could start right away, but that we may want to wait 2-3 cycles so my body can regulate and I can figure out when I O.
