DMV Question
So DH's license expires in a few weeks. He wants to get the Real ID but he can't right now - his only option is to renew and upgrade later.
Has anyone renewed with intention to upgrade later and know if there is an additional cost to get the Real ID on top of the license fee?

when I went to get my real id they wouldn't accept my birth certificate  so i had to get a regular one and they told me when i came back i would pay the differnce.
havent been able to go back yet since they have been closed.

I think under these circumstances you will just have to paynyge difference when you are able to go in and get your Real ID

The Real ID is the same price as a standard license (the Enhanced is more). Just didn't want to have to pay twice. And their website isn't helpful.
(I know he can use his passport too but, for the same price it is just easier to get the real ID).

No - I got it last year and it was the same for each - $80.50. The Enhanced is $30 or $40 more.

DH just made an appt for DMV - they are open now in case he wants to go in and get the REAL ID

you can only go for these reasons though right? cause i have been waiting to make another appointment so i can get my real ID and this what the site says. just wondering if they just haven't updated their website yet.

DH made an appt for a REAL ID I think.
He also has to go turn in plates on his dad's car- but he had his REAL ID appt cancelled in late March so I think he said he made the appt.
I will ask him though and confirm

We entered Phase 3 on Wed- so you should be able to by appt only:
As regions enter phase 3 of reopening, DMV will offer limited in-person transactions in state-run DMV offices by reservation only, prioritizing critical services, and will resume all other road tests at that time. Until then, there will be no in-person transactions in any DMV office and reservations will only become available as regions enter phase 3.
ETA-
It depends on the county and location.
He is going to Medford.
Here is what they are offering IN PERSON
Medford - Currently OPEN for mail-in and drop box processing and for limited in-person transactions by reservation only
You MUST have a reservation to complete in-person transactions at a DMV office.
You can ONLY complete the services listed in each section below.
If the service you seek is offered online, you MUST complete it online.

Restore a revoked or suspended license
Apply for a conditional/restricted license
Commercial driver license permit test
Commercial driver license change/update

thanks I will look to see all the ones near me. or I will just make one for my DH and see if he can do it first before I bother going down there

But none of those options are to get a Real ID drivers license - only a commercial license or a non-driver ID. Or if your license is suspended or revoked.

Yeah I just spoke to him. He saw you could make an appt so he went to do it then realized it's not for Real ID as that's not essential I guess
So you still have to wait.
He is dropping off the plates he needs to surrender in a drop box at the DMV.
I guess phase 3 is still just anything absolutely essential.
