silly question... drive-by/parade baby shower
what, exactly, am i supposed to do?
my cousin's son is expecting his first baby. the parade-type shower is this weekend. the invite says that someone (i'm assuming someone other than the mother-to-be) will come to the car to gather the gift and then there will be "curbside treats."
i'm assuming we'll be honking our horns, yelling "congratulations," and then the treats will be like at a drive-thru. i'm also assuming that i don't have to "dress up" like i would for a regular baby shower.
do i understand this correctly? am i missing something?
i have no idea what the etiquette for these things are

Yes. I think you have it correct. It's pretty much a five-minute party on the front lawn.

You could get out of the entire thing and just mail the gift. I just think this sounds like the ultimate gift grab.

i completely agree. especially since the literal "gift grab" from the vehicle is described right on the invitation.
the only reason i'm "attending" is to keep the peace. i've had some issues with these relatives and i want to be the bigger person and actually show up to, what essentially is, drop off the gift.
since it will be in the evening, after the drive-by, we'll head out for dinner and call it an event.

I would probably do the same. The good news is that you won’t have to play any baby shower bingo.

Definitely a gift grab but I feel for all The brides and moms to be. Most of us got to have our showers and tons of big items gifted to us. Plus I’d rather go to this event that sit through a 4 hour event any day.

Yes while it appears that way I do also feel bad. This person has probably given baby gifts to a ton of other people over the years, and now their turn is here and no party allowed. It kinda sucks for a first time parent.
OP, you could probably drive by in your pajamas! Sometimes people will put a few balloons on their car, or a sign. Up to you!

silly question... drive-by/parade baby shower
I dont see this as a gift grab since people have baby showers in resultants all the time. Those attending go with the knowledge they're bringing a or sending a gift. This is the same as all those drive byes for B-day's.
Due to the way life is right now, letting people know clearly how gifts will be taken and by whom and where the curbside treats can be found is necessary, this will prevent confusion.
I can't take listening to all honking but understand why people have been doing this.
Go, enjoy, yes give a few honks or hang a sign on your car

While I think these drive by things are getting old, this sounds way better than a regular shower. I’ll gladly frisbee that boppy right out the window, collect my cake pop and go on with my day.

I don’t see it as a gift grab at all...except for the part where they are actually grabbing the gift.
While the novelty of the drive by parades has worn off for me, I still try to keep the recipient in mind.
I’d decorate my car, put on my good pajamas and crank up the radio! You’ll make her day

Re: silly question... drive-by/parade baby shower
WE did this for my friend recently. Most people parked, got out of the car to see the mom to be, one of us took the gift to a gift table and they stayed and chatted for a few minutes with the mom. Some came dressed nicely (not as dressed as you would for a regular shower but like a casual sundress) while some lady showed up in her bathing suit and cover up.
