Those renewing license, are you getting Real ID or Enhanced?
I have to get a new one and read the difference between the two. Which did you get? Also, I went to make a reservation online and for some reason, the soonest at a couple of offices is mid January. I tried different offices as my license expires in December.
I just looked at the difference and I don't think enhanced will be needed. Am I correct it just allows you to travel by land or boat to Canada, Mexico and Caribbean? If traveling by plane you still need passport.

Those renewing license, are you getting Real ID or Enhanced?
Just went through this! I had to wait about a month to get an appointment.
I went in person on my appointment time and didn’t have enough documentation to get the enhanced ID. The person helping me said I can only renew an enhanced ID in person. So I wasted my time there. I ended up renewing online with the regular ID. In the future I don’t mind traveling with my passport since i renew that often bc of international travel.

They say that for domestic travel, eventually everyone will need either the enhanced ID or you’ll need a passport. I wanted to get the enhanced but there were no appointments available before my license would expire. So I just renewed my regular license online. Eventually I’d like to get the enhanced so I don’t always need my passport...I used to travel a lot for work, but not now since large events are not happening.

So you both got the regular one due to doing it online. I may have to do this. License expires in December and they are only showing a reservation for January. I thought I woukd have enough time

I got the Real ID when I renewed - prior to pandemic. I can use it for flying domestically and entering government buildings.
For me the enhanced wasn’t worth the extra $$ since the only benefit would be the ability to go to certain countries like Canada without a passport.
DH had to renew in July and just got a regular old license as he had to do it online since there were no appointments for Real ID. It’s the same price for Real or regular but the Real has a Star in the right corner while the regular has not for federal use written.

Got it. Thanks. I will have to decide what to do. It would be nice if they gave you a grace period after expiring date due to the pandemic and a three month wait on appointments

I think there is still a grace period:
All driver licenses and permits that expired March 1, 2020, or after were previously extended and continue to be extended by Executive Order. In addition, the federal REAL ID enforcement deadline has been extended until October 1, 2021.

I went up one level. Didn't seem logical for me to pay extra to travel to Canada, ultimately one will still need a passport

I did the Real ID- the renewal by mail one doesn't let you travel within the US without a passport. I don't want to bring that with me everywhere so I got the Real ID.
The enhanced one is for travel by boat and a few other things I think, I can't remember. But it wasn't worth the extra money

I have global entry and the card they issue is real ID compliant.
My license doesn’t expire for another 5 years so no point in renewing it.

Same. We also travel with our passports anyway because we want them stamped. So we wont bother with the Enhanced.

My license was expiring this year so I got Real. Didn't get enhanced because I never plan on driving to Canada or Mexico, nor taking a cruise there.
I have global entry so my GE ID can also be used for air travel, but didn't want to just rely on that. And not a huge fan of having to take my passport with me every time I fly to Florida.
Made the appointment online with DMV. Was pretty orderly. Total time in there was about 45 minutes. Had all the forms printed prior and the DMV website makes it clear what forms of ID you need to bring to get Real. Was surprisingly easy and seamless.

I got just a standard ID last year. I do have a passport which I always take, even domestic travel.
I know I won't be able to go into a federal building... So I guess I am out of jury duty?
But seriously, I love jury duty. So I hope it doesn't fudge up the next time I get called.

You can use your passport to get into a federal building as well.

Mine expires Sunday and I never got a notice.
DMV was booked more than 2 months in advance so I renewed for the regular license online (to upgrade you have to go in person but sounds like you don't need to.) I needed an eye exam but I happened to be going to my pcp anyway and they did it for me there.
I would have upgraded but I maintain my passport so I don't care all that much.

My license expired last month. I didn't get any notice from DMV, and I can't get an appointment to get the Real ID.
My DH didn't either. The only reason I knew was he looked at it before the pandemic and said my license is expiring this year and for some reason I remembered lol.
