Gas Fireplace Install

Hello! Any idea on how much a gas fireplace would cost to install? We have a gas line in the house, it just needs to be run to the room. I'd like to finish the area with a mantel and built ins. Any info is appreciated.

Do you mean just the line or the insert?

We were looking at an insert and it was about $4-5k

It really depends on there type of system you want. We just converted our wood burning fireplace to a gas fireplace 2 years ago.

We had to run the gas line from the burner to the outside of the existing chimney and in through the firebox. That ran about $3k.

We chose a log set instead of insert. It’s a more natural look and the fireplace isn’t the primary source of heat in the room. The log set, new fireplace doors, fire screen and burner (where the logs sit) was about another $5k.

We have a battery operated starter so we didn’t need electric wiring. Our unit is controlled by remote control and we absolutely love it.

We shopped around extensively and ended up using the Fireplace Factory in Bohemia. I highly recommend them. They also have a location in Bellmore

What you're describing could cost anywhere from a bunch to a lot.

It really depends on what you actually want the end product to look like, and a bit on who's doing all the work.

We used Embers in Farmingdale when we did it. We have a really nice direct vent gas fireplace. I honestly don't know how mcuh it all costs really. I don't want to know. We did it as part of a big reno. So the gas plumbing was buried in our $20K plumbing bill. The framing for the fireplace was done by my brother in law for the bump out back. The mason charged us $2K for the stonework, and the fireplace installed (not the gas line), was like $4500.

If I had to guess our bill to get it "done" would be $10K+. I don't have a picture on the computer to show, but it is bumped into the room a bit, with stone floor to ceiling, brownstone mantle and raised hearth.

I love it, but it was a big expense that maybe we shouldn't have spent.

Re: Gas Fireplace Install

Thank you for the info.

I'm looking for a gas insert, it would be additional heat to the room, not the main source so don't need anything too powerful. I'd want to do stone around the fireplace and cabinets/shelves on each side. Don't know if it will be in budget!

and don't forget the permit fees! The Town of Islip charged us $250 for the plumbing permit - all for the pleasure of changing a fireplace that was already there. It would have been closer to $750 if were installing a new fireplace from scratch.
