It's silly because unless all the guests are quarantined after testing until the event, they could be exposed to any kind of illness. Reminders to wash hands, keep hands off face, and staff only serving the guest (no shared utensils, etc.), is probably more effective.

That is exactly my issue with this rule.
The OP even said her kids will be tested then exposed to God only knows what germs for 3 days in camp- then they can show up at the wedding and everyone feels SO SAFE because they had a negative test 3 days ago.
yeah, makes sense

My cousin is supposed to be getting married in July. At this rate he’ll be getting a card from us. Unless they lift restrictions we will not be going. From Covid testing , to the dancing in zones and then I was told he can’t have a cocktail hour or Viennese hour (don’t know if it’s the hall that is telling him or what) at this point , just rent out space in a restaurant, have a dinner and call it a day

Funny as I put up something on the celebrity board about the housewives Kathy Wakiles daughter just getting married and you would never know there were rules. Do the rules not apply in NJ?

According to this, they followed capacity guidelines. NJ has been stricter than even NY about capacity limits at both halls and restaurants.

Wedding - COVID Measures Followed

Sure looked like a lot more people than that on the video and no masks. Don’t know about the dancing situation in NJ if it is the same as NY.

I don't know and I don't really care what celebrities do. If they want to dance on top of each other and breathe their germs all around the room and end up with COVID, more power to them. For myself, I have no intention on attending a wedding anytime soon.

The point is you can’t make rules for one set of people and not another.

I agree because the thing it- there are so many regular people who had their weddings cancelled or had to have them with less people and all these rules and yet, if you are a Celeb you can have a huge wedding like it's 2019. Not really fair to the "regular" people

Yep and people commented that on their page how they had to cancel multiple times themselves.

While getting tested is an inconvenience, if the person was someone important to me, and the event was important to them, I would certainly take the time to get tested. You can typically make appts. at urgent care now and it takes less than a half an hour. I usually spend quadruple that amount of time picking out a dress, getting my hair and nails done, make up, picking out a gift and wrapping it, etc. This would just be one more thing to add to the list.

And while of course this does not guarantee that no one there will have covid it does definitely mitigate the risk. Even if someone were to contract it in the few days after they get tested there is a good chance they won't be contagious yet at the time of the party.

I would decline the invite. I’m barely seeing our parents.

This is very reckless and self indulgent. No one needs a sweet 16 like this. It’s sad this pandemic hasn’t helped people reflect on what really matters in life.

Camp is helping people work so to me the risk is different than an optional party with lots of people and new risk.

Do whatever you want to do but since you posted, here’s my opinion.

Can you do a drive up Walgreens or CVS to avoid the doctors office? That’s what we did and it wasn’t bad. You actually do the test yourself in the car and then hand it to them.

Now that I know how easy it is, idc about getting tested.

I would do the drive through testing but it's not an option for the kids. They will need to go to the pediatrician who sticks the q-tip all the way up. It's their cousin who is the birthday girl so it's expected they will be there. And normally I would be looking forward to it, but not in these circumstances.

It's expected they will be there, but they are putting you and the kids in a bad position for THEIR party. I'd have no issue not going- or at least not taking the kids and telling them straight up I am not putting my children through an invasive test so you can have a party.

I know it's less than ideal but, I wouldn't get too worried about it now as things could be different by the summer.

There are some places that do rapid testing on kids - that's a bit less invasive if that's an option.

Isn't any event at a catering facility helping people work? Not sure I understand your logic.

Personally I love events like this - weddings, showers, birthday parties. Just because you don't doesn't not mean that things like this don't matter in life. Perhaps what is important to you is something that others would find unimportant. By July anyone that wants to be vaccinated can be so I am not sure how having a party is reckless. Also, if it's at a catering facility I am sure it's within the guidelines set forth by the state as "safe."

My initial thought was of annoyance at that idea as well but who knows where things will be in July? Things may be normalized and you will be worrying for nothing. If that is still the case, I may ditch my kids for the event just so they don't have to get tested.

I am definitely interested in hearing how catering halls are enforcing this though.

I have been taking this very seriously the entire time (we haven't seen our families since summer, we only go to school, work and the grocery store, no playdates, no restaurants, etc), but I am really hoping things start to normalize by summer. By then, every adult who wants to be vaccinated will be able to do so.

Is there an age requirement or kids in general shouldn’t take this test? I’m wondering because I did it for my 12yr old. Was that illegal? Lol.

But your kids are a lot smaller and harder I’m sure to self test.

Re: Sweet 16 and covid testing

I wouldn't be too stressed because so many things could change by then.

I do understand the frustration though. I had surgery in October and had to get Covid tested for clearance but it was 4 days before the surgery.

DS had a baseball game the next day and I remember making extra sure to stay away from people so I didn't catch something and then endanger the people who were going to hover over me for hours just a few days later.

I guess it's better than nothing and catches the low hanging fruit. A rapid on arrival at the surgical facility would obviously have been better but maybe it's a logistics issue. IDK

Hopefully the camp procedures are safe enough and maybe they will be outside which has shown to be lower risk.
