J&J vaccine and previous covid infection
UPDATE:
Wound up going for J&J yesterday at Belmont. Had to wait 30 min in observation instead of the usual 15 bc of my Graves’ disease.
Anyway.. 12 hours after shot, it feels like I have covid all over again minus the breathing issue. Chills and sweating all night. Very achy, chills, joint pain and swelling. Nurse said to avoid Tylenol if I could help it. I’m trying my best to push through but it’s been 24 hrs and I may give in. I haven’t taken my temp but I knows there’s a fever going on. There def was one all night.
I updated here because it seems to be that 1 shot really revved up my immune system. I truly believe they will be pushing for those who had Covid to only have 1 shot of any of the available vaccines. My reaction to J&J was a lot like those who I knows reaction to the 2 shot vaccines who didn’t have covid.
UPDATE#2:
Much better today! (So far)
The worst of it seems to be over. Woke up completely soaked in sweat at 3am and I’ve taken my temp 2x this morning and it’s been in the 98’s. I did some cleaning and feel a little tired but so far so good.
Going to rest as much as I can for the day (I’m off from work on Mondays)

Can anyone find articles about these 2 together?
I’ve read a few things about how they are studying whether those who had covid need 1 or 2 shots w the vaccine , that 1 may be good enough to “jumpstart” your immune system, etc.
So I’m wondering being that J&J is 1 shot anyway, if it would be the best choice for those of us who’ve have it already and have some natural immune response.
I’m having trouble finding info on these 2 topics together.
So if you come across anything, post it here. Thank you!

This is the best info I had seen, but specifically doesn't answer if it would be the best choice. It makes the most sense to give J&J and logistically would free up more vaccines. In actual implementation, the system for vaccine distribution probably can't or won't tease out those who had natural infection. I have a feeling you will end up getting the vaccine the facility you get an appointment with is giving out. Recovered Covid Patients May Not Need 2nd dose

It sure is all over the place. My dr said 90 days based on your age and health risk. So for me, 90 days but for someone like my FIL (over 70 with Preexisting conditions ) sooner than later
We still aren’t protected from other variants right now even though we have antibodies from our recent infection. Vaccine will cover all bases in this instance.

Thank you. This makes me think even more that the J&J may be the best option for those is us who already had covid. Once it’s rolled out, I’ll have to figure out how to find that particular vaccine come April.

Really? My boyfriend's sister had Covid in January and got the vaccine recently
I looked online a I had a friend who had covid in between doses of the vaccine.
They say they recommend you wait 90 days because you have natural immunity and so others can be vaccinated. You only HAVE to wait if you were treated with plasma.

I think it really depends on the individual. So far I know two people that took the J&J vaccine, neither have had Covid. One was miserable, all the side effects OP had, couldn't go to work next day. The other one, perfectly fine, not even a sore arm.

I am glad you're feeling better. I have been following @DavidLat on Twitter. He is a young man who was on a ventilator a year ago due to Covid. He is in a study with NYU. The study looks at how patients who already had #COVID19 respond to each shot in 2-shot vaccines "If we mount a strong immune response after just 1 shot, then maybe we can get just 1 shot, freeing up millions of doses for others." (Something brought up earlier.)
From the comments, it appears people who have had Covid do have a strong immune response when immunized.

Thank you. I’ll check him out. I’ve read so many articles about it but no real evidence or real studies showing much. It makes so much sense (2 shots if you didn’t have it, 1 to boost what you had - same thing the 1st shot does for people) so many vaccines are being “wasted” if that’s the case.
I will have my antibodies checked again in about a month to see how much of a response I had. I was just about 2 weeks shy of the 90 days they say most have antibodies for after having Covid itself.
