Dog Trainer?

My Dad made the awful decision of getting a yellow lab puppy a few months ago. That puppy is now over 60 pounds, is chewing up the house, is aggressive and has knocked my 74 year old father over a few times. My Dad is stubborn and would never admit this was a bad idea, that he should have gotten a smaller dog, and my mother is at her wits end.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a dog trainer that will come to the house and work with the dog AND my father who spoils the dog incessantly? I'm also interested in a trainer that takes the dog for a few weeks and trains her then brings her back.

I'm worried about our summer visits there, my kids are scared of this dog, my Dad is open to getting training I just need to find the right person that can deal with him delicately Chat Icon Thanks!

Re: Dog Trainer?

If you can do the training WITH the trainer, that is best. This way your dog is learning from you and respecting you and not a stranger. The transition from being trained at a facility to going back home and you following through is never easy and you can lose a lot of what they learned in the process.

This is the trainer we used for our dogs and recommend to so many people through the years. He isn’t cheap, I’ll throw that out there, but he is fantastic and straight to the point. No fluff in his training.

His name is Barry Stewart
Here is the website

Have leash will train

ETA: labs are great dogs. They just have a lot of puppy energy and it lasts for the first couple of years. Once you get some training, stick with it and get that energy out - best dogs around. People don’t realize a lab, golden, etc ... they stay “puppies” longer than the little guys. And they are puppy goofy and huge.

You can also check out puppy school. My neighbor brings hers to one in west Babylon once a week. He’s a black lab and they are in their late 50s. Training has gone really well. Just another option
