Help me plan a vacation for my wife
My wife is stressed and needs some time away from the family but she is not sure where to go for vacation. She doesn't want an active one (like sightseeing etc). She doesn't want to travel TOO far.
Can someone recommend like a chill out/relaxing vacation. I'm thinking Spa or somewhere with a beach.
Only beach I know of is Cancun or Puerto Rico (Bahamas or Aruba are further away I think). Not sure where there are beach vacations in the US. Florida? NC? VA beach?
What about spa places? Something in upstate NY? PA?
Obviously someplace safe, because she will be by herself. I assume theres a difference in safety if its 2-3 ppl on the beach vs someone by themselves
Thanks

Re: Help me plan a vacation for my wife
Bermuda! It's beautiful and safe and the flight is super quick from NY. The only issue might be the quarantine requirements right now so you would have to check.

Re: Help me plan a vacation for my wife
Florida I have stayed at many resorts in Florida that I'd be fine with being there on my own. They have spas, beautiful pools to relax at and be served food and drinks etc. All right on the beach All a short Uber ride from the airport too so easy to get too.
A few:
Sandpearl Resort in ClearWater Opal Sands in Clearwater Margaritaville in Hollywood Beach
All would fit the bill for a solo trip for a woman needing some R&R

Re: Help me plan a vacation for my wife
What is relaxing for her, travel-wise? You don't want her to start and end her vacation stressed out.
Is she OK driving 3-5+ hours upstate or another state? It sounds like planes are OK for her. How far is "too far" by plane or by car?
If anything more than an hour or two driving is stressful, there are places on LI where she can get away without going very far.

If I was going away by myself, Bermuda would be my first choice. It is safe and quiet and beautiful. It is a quick 2 hour flight.

That would definitely be on my short list of places to get away to.

If I could move there I would but I already inquired and I would have to marry a Bermudian to live full time lol. I looked at my husband and was like ummmmm

Re: Help me plan a vacation for my wife
I hear this. I so badly want to live there but unless you are Bloomberg or Ross Perot rich, I will never be able to live there We have been there every year except for 2020. and I missing it. I just love the whole feel of the island and the people are so wonderful.
Right now their restrictions are a little much. Have to get tested before you get there. Stay in your room until you get results back and then test again before you leave even if you got the shots.
Maybe it has eased up a little bit. I was looking into it a while ago...
But hopefully we will be back there next year.

Help me plan a vacation for my wife
Just took a look at google maps. Bermuda looks so isolated - its just a tiny thing floating out there east of FL.
At least Bahamas is close to FL - but I guess Bahamas is further out because you have to fly to the bottom of FL first.

I'm not sure what being close to FL has to do with anything....
Bermuda is a small island, but it's beautiful there. They have nice beaches, historical sites, shopping, dining, crystal caves, swimming with dolphins. It's a lovely place to visit. We often cruise there because the ships dock at Bermuda for 3 days.

Ocean Key House, Key West
At the end of Duval street in key west. Lots of restaurants, bars, shopping in walking distance, can rent a bicycle or moped to explore, really nice spa. A balcony room that faces west (sunset) would be perfect.

Thanks. Sounds like FL (various places) and Bermuda are leading the pack

It is only a 2 hour flight and while Bahamas is beautiful, Bermuda is just on its on level. Much safer too.

We spent a month in Bermuda last year as a family. It was probably my 8th time there. And then I went back for a girls weekend and my husband and son went back for a golf tournament. When we went in 2020 there were testing and quarantine requirements but it was super easy - get tested before going, when you land at the airport they test you again and you can't leave your hotel room until you get the results - but we had rooms with nice balconies and we were out of quarantine by the next morning. Totally worth it. My husband told me that they had an outbreak there recently and the lockdowns are a little stricter, but hopefully with the vaccine rollout that will change soon.
FYI there are ways to buy places in Bermuda, it is just difficult. I did a lot of research while I was there. The most affordable way to do it seemed to buy at one of the newer condo hotels or the Belmont I think is what it was called. I hope to buy something there someday and spend more time there. We will see.

Thanks. I know they said you can live there for a certain amount of time but can’t be a full time resident. Maybe when I win the lotto lol :)

Bermuda does sound good, but aren't we in hurricane season? I assume it gets hit pretty often

Yes we are in hurricane season but it also happens to be the best time to go to Bermuda. The likelihood that there will be a hurricane while you are there is pretty slim although We were there for a month, I left for three weeks and then went back and during that time they did get hit with either a severe tropical storm or minor hurricane. We got lucky! I think if you plan something for July you will be okay. I feel like it seems to get a little worse in the fall.

June to November is hurricane season so there is no really no way to avoid it if you pick a trip anywhere on this side of the country.
I wouldn’t not go on vacation just in case there is one as you can’t really plan this.
I have personally been on a cruise that went around a hurricane as well as flying away from hurricane Irene on our way to FL.
Anything can happen in life. You just have to have faith and take that leap as your chances I am sure are higher of no problems :)

And honestly the time to go to Bermuda is May to Oct- it's not as far south as other islands so it does get colder their in the winter- think of Carolinas weather that's what they have

Agreed. We have been there in the months of June and August and it was wonderful.

Re: Help me plan a vacation for my wife
And Bermuda is far enough north that there is plenty of warning if there are any potential hurricanes headed that way.
