Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

Since having COVID do you find that you don't quite feel the same as you did prior to having had it? Do you notice any lingering issues OR new issues that you didn't have prior to being sick?

Re: Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

I know u asked this question “only” to those that have had covid but u might want to also keep in mind that since u got both of the vaccines as well, that might have also played a roll. Just a thought to consider.

Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

My family and I had covid back in March/April 2020. My husband claims he has not felt good ever since. He says he has episodes still where he feels he's relapsing and getting sick again but then it passes. He is also diabetic.

I, myself, had covid but never had any symptoms. Well, one day I had what felt like heartburn when took a deep breath in. But it passed and I had an antibody test and it was positive. However, at every doctor appt since then (and I go often for lupus) I have a high blood pressure reading. Never once in my life have I had high blood pressure. My doctor is calling it post-covid hypertension and said he has seen it in so many patients who had covid.

And this has been going on for over a year. I was vaccinated in April this year so nothing to do with vaccination.

Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

My DH and I had covid in March/April 2021.

My husband is fine and has no lingering issues.

I still cannot smell anything. Occasionally, I get a whiff of something but it's not consistent.

Thanks for sharing. xo

Thankfully my smell and taste came back but since being sick I find there are days where I still just feel "off". I don't attribute it to the vaccine as I received that at the very end of May but have felt "off" since back in March when I had COVID. It's just frustrating.

Interesting you mention hypertension. My good friend got sick back in February of this year (she had a pretty bad case) and ever since she's had high blood pressure. For a while the drs had a hard time getting it under control, now she's finally doing better. But like you, never had hypertension until she got sick.

This was always why I was scared of getting COVID. I wasn't so much worried about dying as the odds were in my favor but I was very concerned about the long term effects on my health. SO many people I know who have had COVID are suffering with issues now from not getting their smell and taste back to liver damage, breathing issues, constant fatigue, hypertension and more. Very upsetting. Chat Icon

Re: Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

Yes.

Forgetting the taste and smell issue (some food still isn’t right and I just now stopped smelling cigarette smoke 24/7).

For a few months my BP was high. That also just went to normal. Covid brain is a real thing. I am so forgetful , spacey and have been a lot more clumsy. I have bruises everywhere from banging into stuff. My vision has gotten worse as well - I always needed glasses for night driving, but now I’m pretty sure I need them all the time. It felt like that happened over the span of a couple months.
Anxiety is as bad as it was when I was younger.

My poor brother is even worse with horrible migraines (he never had them before) 5 mo later and he has zero taste and smells burning plastic constantly. He’s fatigued to the point where he can hardly work and missing a lot of work because of it.

Edited to fix typos and to add:
I also have bad PTSD from it. Every couch, tickle in my throat(that’s how mine started w a tickle) I go into panic that it’s happening again. I hate to admit it, I take my temperature daily just in case I’m harboring a case of it without having other symptoms.

I also have had a friend who had Covid Jan. of 21 and only sometimes can get a whiff of things but mainly cannot smell still. For months after she was very tired and had what she called Covid brain where she had a hard time remembering things.

Another coworkers husband had it March of 19 and was very ill he was intubated he definitely has neurological issues since.

I'm so sorry for you both. xo It's tough. I really haven't felt 100% like my old self either since COVID so I totally get where you're coming from. Hopefully in time you and your brother get back to normal. Chat Icon

Yes, I’m glad to see this topic. I’m somewhat comforted in reading these responses, because now I know that it’s not only me.

I had Covid in January 2021. I was in bad shape for a few weeks, but never hospitalized, oxygen levels always normal, never developed a cough, etc. I definitely feel A LOT better, but not 100%. Most days I feel fine, and I forget I even had it. I will get occasional chest pains/spasms that I never had before. My pulmonologist and cardiologist have run every test on me, and assure me that I am physically fine. They both (along with my primary dr.) think that I have anxiety issues, and may want to eventually seek treatment for that.

This is exactly like my husband describes it, like he just doesn't feel right.

On another note, others in my family now have lifelong complications from covid. My mom, who is 76 and has congestive heart failure, got covid in Jan 21 and her heart failure got so much worse that she is on oxygen full time and had to be admitted to a nursing home because of it. Prior she was in the hospital a month with covid.

My brother in law had covid very bad. He recovered finally, then tried to return to work and had a stroke on the job. He will never really be the same.

Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

Just wanted to share in case it helps someone. Some say taking Pepcid helped get the taste back. Others started going to a neurologist because the virus can effect a nerve.

Mount Sinai in NYC has a post-covid practice for people still struggling.

But it’s just a “flu” right? :eyeroll:

Yea, I'm pretty tired of the attitude that it's "like any other virus". Chat Icon In my adult life I've never been down and out for over 2 weeks and I certainly never had issues months after being sick. I think it's easy for someone who has never had it to convince themselves that COVID is "no big deal". From my own experience, it was awful to go through and I don't know ANYONE in my own life who isn't suffering post-covid in some capacity. It's very upsetting and frustrating. I only wish I was able to have gotten vaccinated prior to getting COVID, I was so close. I think it would have made a big difference.

You're definitely not alone. Chat Icon I'm struggling with anxiety issues as well and prior to COVID I've never had anxiety. It's not constant but when I get anxious there is literally no reason for it. It just comes on without warning, some days I can cope and other days I need a Xanax. It's REALLY upsetting, I just want to go back to feeling normal.

There needs to be more discussion about the post COVID issues, particularly those that are neurological in nature. It's crazy to think that a virus can affect anyone neurologically and/or long term. This is not just "any virus" and it's crazy to me that someone would rather gamble with getting it over being vaccinated.

My muscle pain I tend to attribute to my fibromyalgia but it could be Covid related as well It’s worse than it’s ever been. I keep saying I feel like I have rigor mortis. So tender and tight

Re: Question for **ONLY** those who have had COVID

My 7 year old son had Covid in January. His only symptom was eye pain (which is common in Covid-positive children). It's now almost August and he is still having eye pain on and off. I have taken him to the eye doctor multiple times and they can't find anything wrong.

No one in my family has had any lingering effects of covid. We had very mild cases and none of us lost taste or smell either.

Just putting it out there that the anxiety issues could have been brewing because of being on lockdown for so long and then just exacerbated by the anxiety that people get when they are diagnosed with covid and not knowing how sick you or your family members will get.

By the way, there are also many long term side effects of the chicken pox virus as well as many other serious viruses. This is not the first virus to have serious, long term side effects and at one point there were chicken pox parties to make sure your children got it. Crazy that in less than 40 years we went from chicken pox parties to a required vaccine.

The unique thing about covid is not long term side effects but it's ability to sweep through the global population so quickly and be so lethal.

It's not just the periodic anxiety, it's other things too. All of which started post COVID.

My breathing took quite a hit. It was bad for about a month and now, 5 months later, I still don’t feel like my lung capacity went back to normal.
