Need my LIers for this one. My basement is flooded to the ceiling no one in westchester can come out. Anyone know someone on LI who might be willing to make the trip up? We are lower westchester about 20 min from the queens/Nassau border. Will pay for travel obviously.

Thank you! I hope everyone is safe!

I"m sorry!

I'd recommend someone from Rockland but I doubt they would be able to come out either. I've been hearing the fire sirens all morning and it's all flooding.

Thanks, guys. We still have about 6ft of water and no power. Our cars were submerged and are totaled. The restoration services are so backed up some are a 3 week waitlist if they will take anyone at all so all the water and debris are just hanging out. I was spared Sandy and I don’t know how those of you who weren’t did it.

The hardest hit was the next town over, which has a lot of lower income areas. People were posting pictures of their apartments with water up to the counters and still filling pleading for someone to save them. There were no evacuation orders. It’s so insane.

What about the fire department. I know they were helping people in my town.

Re: Extreme flooding

I'm so sorry. I know how awful it is, at least to an extent.

BTDT with my mom's house and Sandy. With the gas shortage, we weren't able to get anyone to physically come to her for several days, so after the water receded I got out a razor blade and took down almost all the sheetrock myself, pulled out the sopping insulation, and got a big head start on pulling up the floorboards. I was worried about mold.

I called every restoration company in the book and finally got these idiots who came out and didn't do the best job but at least she was able to avoid mold and begin cleaning out and starting recovery. I wouldn't recommend them at all as they put everything out on the lawn, even things in good shape, and I had to dig through an enormous pile and salvage things that were in perfectly good shape. They were horrible.

Someone will get to you eventually and it will all be ok. Keep calling places, definitely on LI as the damage wasn't as bad here. I'm sure someone will go up there. It's not far.

Chat Icon I know it sucks.

Extreme flooding

Ugh no suggestions but wanted to say I'm so sorry you're going through this. This storm was devastating...I never imagined it would be so bad and so many deaths. Horrible. Hope you get someone out soon

Try calling the fire department or public safety. I am in White Plains and the fire department was compiling a list of residents that needed help pumping out the water.

That's terrible.
I saw someone ask on Next Door ( I am also in Westchester) and someone suggested Crystal remediation-- not sure if you've tried them. You've probably tried servpro, but I wonder if they might be able to speed things up soon since they have providers in different areas who might be willing to travel. I know some companies did that after Sandy.

Roto Rooter also handles flooding.

Also, try your town/village/city. To see if they have any resources.

ETA- a few more companies in Westchester in case you haven't tried them:
( i have no experience with any of them, but people recommended them on line)

Re: Extreme flooding

My sister is in Westchester and her entire first floor flooded. She was able to get Roto Rooter - never knew they did this, but they are coming on Tuesday.

Good luck and I am so sorry!

Re: Extreme flooding

My in laws are having this problem too. I contacted a moving company to remove all of the stuff from their basement. Then ca contractor for demo. Got large fans in. The remediation company is supposed to come next week. Their car was totaled too. The water went to the joists of the first floor. It is terrible.

I am of no help but just wanted to say I am sorry you are going through this. We have had floods before and it is horrendous. I hope you get the assistance you need sooner rather than later. Are you in Port Chester? Our friends are and I could not believe the images and videos they sent us. Insane.
