The flooding is horrible and people need to be prepared to get out (Not necessarily NYC and LI)
If you know anybody flooding right now in CT, NY, PA and NJ, this is not to be taken lightly. If they are near rising water, tell them to get out. Do not wait til it gets even higher. Do not drive through water!!!!!!!!!!!!
TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN!!!!!!!!!
Bridges are being washed away and levees are being topped in cities. Water is at record levels. Irene really soaked a saturated area and the remnants of Lee have made this is a horrific experience.
Not sure if anybody is still in touch with Mary (as I see she has been deactivated again ) or anybody in these areas. This is not a situation to be taken lightly. Pass this on to anybody dealing with this.
From Governor Cuomo's press conference:
"If you are in an an evacuation area, evacuate, and evacuate quickly. Don’t’ look out the window and say it’s not too bad. By the time it looks that bad, you won’t be able to leave."
"This is a major flooding situation. This is nothing to be trifled with. This is going to get much worse before it gets better."
God Bless everybody in these areas.

My friend's parents are in NEPA. They're currently evacuating.
My cousin lives in Wilkes-Barre...he is kind of a hermit type. Doesn't even have a phone. I don't know what is going on with him, if he is evacuating or what.

This is no joke, my friend lives in PA and her DH is a police officer in their town, she has said the flooding by her is bad (but she's not in a flood area I guess?). Some of the pics she has reposted from others are so sad. Bridges, streets washed out. I guess one bridge was destroyed when two houses slammed into it :( Her town is no way in, no way out. She had a friend who needed to be rescued by boat yesterday.
And she posted this video. Amazing.

Re: The flooding is horrible and people need to be prepared to get out (Not necessarily NYC and LI)
The flooding in upstate NY is BAD - I live here. My co-workers' house was destroyed by Irene and yesterday they had to evacuate again - the county where he lives closed ALL roads - you are not allowed to drive anywhere.
I work at school and the roads were so bad in some parts of town that we are closed today - as are many other area schools - and it is not as though I live in some rural area - I am in the suburbs. Luckily, I do not live close to the rivers or creeks, but I am for my students' and co-workers' safety. It is going to be a rough first day back tomorrow for many students and teachers because of the flooding.

Re: The flooding is horrible and people need to be prepared to get out (Not necessarily NYC and LI)
did you look for Mary as kindnessmatters ???
Yeah turn around don't drown is a VERY common saying here.
Guys take this SERIOUSLY. Jim first thought it was a stupid saying when we moved to TX but we dont have dirt - we have limestone - so we build up not down. In return we flood very easily. Its a true wake up to learn.. if may look shallow but its not.
DO NOT RISK IT!
Its never worth the risk to try to cross a high water area. EVER.
So many claims I saw with flooding could so easily have been avoided. Most invovled serious injury or death. It may not make the paper or news only once or twice but you have no idea how many lives are lost to people who try to cross a low water crossing, stay at home or don't heed official advice.
Is it inconveinent? yes Is it hard to leave your home behind? yes Is it sometimes a false alarm? You can only hope so But is it worth it? absolutely EVERY TIME
Flood and Fire can move so quickly and it is utterly unpredictable.
Don't let yourself be trapped and helpless. its already too easy for that to happen. If you can, get your butt in gear and find higher ground.
We here in Texas are having a similar problem with our wildfires. No one wants to get out of the way. Its too far away, etc. But honestly its never too early. Some here are trapped with no way out with roads over taken by smoke or literally burning. Same can happen with water. You may be fine for awhile but then the water will rise around you and you will find yourself trapped.
Sorry to ramble and go off but I've experienced both and honestly.... just GET OUT
and above all !!!
Don't Drown! Turn Around!
ETA: everything, EVERYTHING that is material can be replaced or easily mourned over and you can move on.
Life is irreplaceable and never easy to mourn or move on from.

I was shocked last night when I was on Facebook and my alma mater - Oneonta State College was closing up campus due to the rising water. I've seen the images of Binghamton - it's horrible!! These communities got hit hard by Irene and now are dealing with the most recent remnants of a hurricane and constant rain. I pray they all make it out safely!!!

Cornell closed today too because ALL of the roads in Ithaca are closed! It didn't close once during my years there, so this really must be insane!
