Accident in a leased car

When we were doing construction on our house, I ran our leased vehicle into our POD (it was taking up most of our driveway and it had snowed so I had a really narrow space). I just got the dent fixed and that was that.

Depends. I turned in a leased car to another car maker with a dent and they covered the cost of fixing it because the buy out price was so good.
You might be surprised as what you can negotiate.

Looking at it more now they will have to replace the grill part.

I am going to get it fixed before turning it on just not sure if I need to tell them about it.

Re: Accident in a leased car

my DH was in an accident in a lease.
He got the car fixed through insurance and that was it.
There was no issue returning the lease.
We didn't even mention it because the car looked as good as new
As long as you fix it and don't return it with body damage it's no issue

Accident in a leased car

Unless they (dealership) give you a nice incentive to trade in and the next car you would like is available, I would hold on to your car. There is very little inventory in the market these days. They want your car so they can sell to make some money.

As long as the car is repaired, you want get invoiced at end of lease. If you don't repair it, you will likely pay more for them to repair it.

Just get it fixed by a reputable repair shop. As long as there is no visible damage, you're fine. I wish I took pictures of the condition of some of the lease returns we get. I had one come in last year with the bumper literally falling off. Its crazy.

Accident in a leased car

If the damage is reported to Carfax than the dealership will know. Happened to me with my last lease.

But what did they do about it?
If you fix the car via a reputable body shop that's all they care about.
They can't expect someone to never get in an accident in a leased car.
That's what insurance is for

It is not that. My leased car was way under the mileage and I had 6 months left of my lease and wanted to trade in for another leased vehicle with Toyota. Dealerships like when a leased vehicle is under the mileage they can re-sell the car and make a nice profit. Since the car was in an accident they would just return the car back to Toyota and not sell it; hence not making any money on it so I was not able to turn in my leased vehicle early.

Oh ok.
We were returning the lease that had been in an accident to another car brand entirely- they wanted to take our business away from the original dealer so badly (plus the car was under on mileage ) that they barely even looked at the car- just said ok we'll take care of the return, no worries.
LOL

Maybe that’s the case for a big accident, but I don’t think it’s true for a fender bender. We returned a car that was in a minor fender bender early. On a different lease, the quarter panel was dented badly (not an accident, we don’t know what happened) and we returned the car early with the dent still there and they didn’t even charge us.

So I would say it depends on the dealership. Also, with cars so in demand right now (see other thread) I’m sure they will have no trouble offloading your fixed car that was in a fender bender.

ETA we’ve also returned cars OVER mileage early without an issue and without paying for the extra miles.

That I am not sure about. If you don't go through insurance they might not have to report it to Carfax.

If there is no police report and you don't go through insurance, it is not reported. Otherwise, it will be.

The value of a vehicle is lower once it has been in an accident. It is not a big deal for the leasee, you would just return it. However, not sure how eager they would be to get you out of the lease.
