What are “cool” clothing brands for middle school girls?
Trying to buy ahead for my preen girl who is becoming more fashion conscious. Not sure what kids are wearing now or if that even matters yet at this age. A lot of the clothes I’ve seen for preteen girls seems like it may be a bit too “cutesy” going forward for DD. Any “go to” store for girls clothing 11-13?

My daughter is on the low end of that age range and she likes Abercrombie. She can also fit into xs shirts in the junior section of Marshalls and Target.

DD is 11. She loves Hollister, American Eagle, Tillys,Garage, Shein, Abercrombie Most of these places have XXS sizes and 00 that she fits in. In Target she finds a few things in women's XS but their Art Class brand for kids she will sometimes find things that are not too cutesy.

My DD is obsessed with everything from American Eagle. It's practically all she wears. She also likes Aeropostale and Lululemon.
ETA - She's 13.

All of this.. and Uggs Jordan's Nike Katie J (crop tops )
I personally like Aqua from Bloomingdales. It's still pricey IMO, but more affordable than some and not has tight, short, etc. as some brands.

I’m glad to see that many of the stores that were cool when I was in high school are still fashionable but I forgot how pricey some of these clothes are, I’ll be spending more on her than my own clothes. She might have to settle for athleta over Lulelemon though $$$

FYI- a friend of mine got her daughter Lulelemon leggings for Christmas. $129. (which I cannot fathom for a pair of leggings but yeah, anyway...) They had holes in them after 1 wear. When she called to complain they told her they are suspending quality issues until February. (This was late Dec) Because they are in return season. What does that even mean? They weren't helpful at all. To me, if i am spending over $100 on a pair of leggings, they better last forever- and if they don't, they better have DAMN good CS to make it right.

My girls are 11 and 13.
I'm not sure if VS Pink was mentioned. They will wear those sweatshirts a lot and many of the above American Eagle, Aerie leggings, less Abercrombie lately, Holister..
They each got lululemon leggings with christmas money. Yet to be determined how they do long run but we've been careful with washing directions.

I agree. I don't know what all the appeal is with them. I will only buy on sale. They run sooooo small and I do think their CS sucks. They were running a big promotion at Christmas.. only to find out the leggings are non-returnable. I've been buying the Zella brand from Nordstroms and they hold up well and Atheleta just opened a free standing store behind the Smith Haven Mall. Check that out too.

Re: What are “cool” clothing brands for middle school girls?
All the ones mentioned above and these UNIQLO, Asos.
Free People is another brand, they are way overpriced. I buy it for my niece when its on sale combined with Nordstrom notes. I always look like a hero. They love to go on Poshmark and thrifting as well.
For the brands that are pricey, there is always a discount code or sale to use. Then you get rewards for the next time you shop. Never pay full price, especially since they are growing. I also hear there are a good pair of Lululemon dupes on Amazon.

Re: What are “cool” clothing brands for middle school girls?
My DD is 11 and she seems to just start caring about her clothes but not too much yet. I give no care about clothe or brands so I hope she stays that way but I am sure she won’t lol she goes to middle school next year so I’m sure that’s when it will really change.
With that said she likes Shein clothing so i have ordered stuff from Her there. it’s so cheap so it probably won’t last long but honestly for the price I don’t care.

Yes, middle school was definitely when my DD turned a corner in caring about her looks and clothes. She loves Shein too and I love the prices on there. At their age between out growing it and styles changing and her deciding she doesn't like something anymore, I can't see spending a ton

I can’t see myself spending a ton of money either for the fact that you know they’re going to grow out of it so quickly.
For her birthday this year she wanted Nikes and it killed me to have to spend almost $70 on them mostly because who knows how fast she will grow out of them.

I prefer Athleta myself as an adult but what do I know? Not a teenage girl. Makes me glad I have boys lol.

My DD is 14 now and in her first year of HS. Most of the girls including her love Hollister, Forever 21, VS Pink, American Eagle, Aeropostale, etc. Lots of leggings and crop tops. We always got her leggings from Aero, Holllister, etc on sale I can't fathom spending $100+ on leggings.
Sneakers are huge too Nike AF1, Jordans or Yeezys...that is where we spend our money but DD has been the same size for almost 2 years so we splurge on those for Birthdays, Christmas.

I always laugh too because the clunky white Seinfeld circa 1990 "dad" shoes are what they are all wearing now. I call them steady Eddie's. My daughter gets annoyed at me.

Abercrombie, Hollister and American Eagle are the go to for the girls around here. Many also wear Lulelemon but I refuse the spend that much money on leggings.
Doc Martins were big this Holiday season and so were work boots. Honestly really whatever she likes to wear. I see the gamut of fashion with these girls....from hoochie mama to baggy sweats and hoodies.

I have those! I also have a pair from the Gap that are literally the softest most comfortable, most luxurious feeling leggings I ever owned

Don't have a child this age but over $100 for leggings is IN.SANE, especially for a child that is growing. I have a pair of those Lulelemon ones that I bought from a friend who was selling and never wore unfortunately. I never found the right top to go with it as they were very busy. They cost me $25 and I thought THAT was a lot lol.
My favorite ones are the Lauren Conrad ones from Kohls. I even have a $6 pair from Walmart that does the job too

I still cannot get over the fact that "mom jeans" are not only back but cool!!!! I STILL wouldn't be caught dead in those high waisted monstrosities.

Re: What are “cool” clothing brands for middle school girls?
At the middle school drop off the kids all wear black leggings and a hoodie sweatshirt. I rarely (if ever) see girls wearing jeans. Occasionally a girl will wear baggy sweatpants. Coats are very rare also (they have access to their lockers, but apparently a lot of them get dropped off and don't like to have to stop at their lockers). They wear addidas, converse or Vans sneakers. I rarely see Uggs, but on occasion that is the only boots I've noticed.
I m honestly so surprised as I don't think this look is particularly flattering. I'm not so sure about brands. My daughter is so clueless and couldn't care less, so I try to keep a look out for her.
