Blu, you're right. They aren't, or at least not in the context that many of the posters on here are saying.
I don't have time to reply to every point that Chiliswife made but I hope people question/look into her points before they take them at face value because they are largely untrue, distortions, and misrepresentations.
I will say this, though: Saying we don't have the "right" to healthcare like that's a good thing, or like that's how it should be, is representative of a foundational difference in thinking that I don't know how to bridge. It's just morally wrong and as long as we as a society continue to accept that as truth the longer we'll continue our decline.
I agree with many points you both made.
I think many people have taken all things relating to COVID, mandates that were put into place for the sole purpose of protecting the public interest and health, and have grossly overexaggerated the detrimental impact it has had on their "freedoms", their rights and their lives.
Trust me when I say that I certainly do not agree with much of the politics in this country and on BOTH sides there are those that will abuse their power. However, I 100% do not think or have ever once felt that the government was trying to "control" me or strip me of my freedoms and right to express myself. Aside from a wearing a mask and social distancing when needed, my life has felt pretty much the same as it always did. I haven't at all felt that I've had less rights or freedoms than I did prior to COVID.
I find it sad how so many in this country have behaved during this WORLD health crisis and pandemic. I think that is far more disturbing than anything the government has implemented or asked of people.
Consider yourself lucky then. Many have lost jobs when this first started or after having to choose between a vaccine and their career.
You come off as a very spoiled, self-centered individual who think that anyone who experiences anything differently is just wrong and they have no right to complain.
As usual, WTF are you even talking about?
***APOLOGIES TO ALL FOR DERAILING THIS THREAD FOR A QUICK SECOND****
I will say this ONE more time and then I will not continue to engage with you on this thread or any other thread EVER again.
Something is f@&king wrong with you. Your BLATANT OBESSION with me along with the ludicrous amount of time and energy you put into assuming things about people you don't know, strangers on a forum who aren't your friends and this forum as a whole is so unhealthy and mentally unstable that I can't even understand how you manage to function in your real life.
Likely, because you don't have a real life.
You're a sad little follower on here who just "claps" and "likes" everything the same three people on here say because you're so blindingly insecure that the the attention from people who don't know you from a hole in the wall seemingly means the world to you.
You stalk posters and try to research the h-e-l-l out of them.
You obsess over posters and every word they have ever spoken.
But worse is that you are a passive-aggressive insulting POS.
And you NEVER remove yourself from any thread or conversation because without LIF you have NOTHING to fill your day with. You reply rapid fire 24/7 because this forum is seemingly all you have in your life that matters to you.
That's sad. YOU are sad.
I SO am tired of the same old nonsense with you. You have ruined this forum over the last year and a half with your moronic comments and $hit stirring. You sound like an unhinged idiot every time you reply to me pretending to know anything at all about who I am, what I have, who I know, what I do and on and on and on.
You're a joke. I pity you and literally laugh every time I see one of your posts because you are honestly one of the saddest people I've ever come across. A pathetic, insecure, envious soul who craves attention from strangers and who has made a silly little forum her reason for breathing.
Carry on if you must but going forward, regardless of how many times you address me on here, you will be IGNORED. I am done with all of your games and drama. I am MORE than happy to leave you to whatever epic level of crazy you seem to have in your life. Get help psycho. For real. Something isn't right in your head.
Sorry again, back to the topic at hand.
"I will say this ONE more time and then I will not continue to engage with you on this thread or any other thread EVER again."
If I only had a $1 every time you said this. You can try and make yourself to look like one person on here (which you are doing a great job yourself showing your REAL self honestly) and then someone else IRL but no one is fooled.

I so agree with Chiliswife and really didn't even want to respond because it breaks my heart that generation after generation has become so compliant. I'm a bit older but I would not change the way I grew up for anything. We lived and enjoyed life. Everything wasn't made "safe" for us. I laugh at the memes on facebook with the kids climbing the ropes at school that would never happen today. and the same goes with what you call losing our rights. You probably don't even know the rights you had. I have 3 kids about 10 years apart and just the way the "experts" have changed the way we are suppose to raise them boggles my mind too many experts and who says they are always right? Seat belts another stupid law. I have to wear a seat belt in a car but a motorcycle doesn't and thats far more dangerous. The thing is over the years they have slowly taken away many rights but in a way that people don't even realize it. People keep throwing in about other vaccines being mandated and time and time again it has been pointed out that the other mandated vaccines have been around forever, they are given over the course of years and they have proven to eradicate the disease that they were intended to. so I wish people would stop putting this covid shot in the same category as childhood vaccines.
It's far more dangerous to wear a seatbelt on a motorbike. Inertia and all that jazz.

I never ever said health care - or abortion - should not be a right. THAT is YOUR distortion. Of course people should have health care. You completely missed the point.
but healthcare and housing is not or should not be the right of the government. They can look into making it affordable and why a one night stay in the hospital when having a baby costs thousands of dollars but we shouldn't be looking to the government to provide healthcare and housing.

There is nothing privileged about it.
The fact is, the government isn't trying to "control" anyone. Period.
Nobody's rights have been stripped away.
Nobody is living under severe oppression from our government.
Look at country's that suffer under REAL oppression, countries like Korea where you can be killed for having your own opinion, and then show me how bad Americans have it because they had to follow some COVID protocols.
Sorry, I just don't agree and feel that much of the outrage is much ado about nothing. JMO.

You really need to get out more. You live in a bubble and it’s sad that people think of you as the girl who thinks her **** don’t stink. While Americans might have more freedom than other countries, if you don’t see the control Hochul is having over these children, then you truly are clueless.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but just because someone else has it worse (No. Koreans for example) does not mean that what is going on here is constitutional. Frankly I actually hate the comparison because what goes on in a dictatorship has nothing to do with whether or not our government is abiding by the boundaries which have been set by our constitution.
There was a lot of debate about forced vaccines in NY right preceding the pandemic - specifically mandatory HPV and Flu shots. To me, that's the government overreaching. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease which is entirely preventable, yet we will most likely be forced to give it to our children for school. And I think that the concern right now is that the government is overreaching now as well and if we sit by and allow that to happen, slowly, but surely over time they will continue to infringe on our rights.

The comparison to Korea is simply for perspective. I won't argue that there is some level of government overreach however, the way *some* talk you would think that living in America/NY today is akin to living in an actual dictatorship. In fact, I've lost track of the number of times people on here have called Hochul and Cuomo a dictator which couldn't be further from reality. So with regards to the discussion, I do think people are being a little dramatic. Our rights and freedoms, for all intents and purposes, are relatively in tact.
That aside, I agree with you regarding the HPV vaccine. I didn't give that one to my DD nor will I give it to my son.

JMO.
Compared to other states, yes they are dictators.

I would have to agree that your comment sounds privileged
There is nothing privileged about it.

Heres an example of dictatorship of the USA: The Military man/woman who served their country for years, whos risked his/her life time and time again should be discharged because they don't want to take some vaccine? Oh and its not an honorable discharge where they at least get some stipend for their service. They get fired basically.
So thats ok with you? None of your freedoms have been taken away so maybe you live the clouds in your fancy house and don't have a clue about the real world and will probably say "but its their choice so its the consequences" NOPE!!! This Covid crap has brought to light how much the government is taking control a little bit at a time so what you do, how you do it and everything in between is controlled by them.

dic·ta·tor /'dik?tad?r/
noun
a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force.
--------------------------------------------------
We don't have dictators nor do we have a dictatorship in this country. That's fact. You might not agree with or like how some things are handled or some of the policies that are put into place but that doesn't make this country a dictatorship in any way.
You're entitled to disagree, that's fine, but by definition there is nothing taking place in this nation that would constitute a true dictatorship. Poor politics? $hit leaders? Absolutely. But still not dictators.

To be fair thou many people in the military are forced to take vaccines before they are approved for the general public. I know a lot of people had to take anthrax vaccines (not sure if it was actually a vaccine but you Kwim) after 9/11.

It’s not worth it. She doesn’t get it and never will as she is spoiled and always has been. She hasn’t had to work a day in her life to actually support a family and worry about not being able to. There is absolute control and most people see that. Others are clueless and think if you don’t get killed for your opinion you should be fine with anything. Funny coming from someone who defriends her old friends because they don’t agree with them. Very sad and immature.

Well good thing you left NY because it will be mandated here at age 11 sooner than we think.
And yes while I agree there are many who are reacting stronger than I might think necessary, I am kind of glad they are. I think it’s good in this country to keep our government in check in both sides of the aisle.

I agree with you.
With regards to COVID mandates, my honest opinion is that initially everything implemented was with good intentions. We had an unknown virus with no understanding of how to treat it or deal with it and many were dying. All we could do to protect ourselves and others was to mask up and keep our distance. But I understand some of the frustration at this point with many of these mandates, much of what's going on doesn't make a lot of sense anymore.
It does seem that things are beginning to ease somewhat as each variant becomes less and less threatening. Hoping this is finally the year we get back to "real" normal.

I dont want to quote but if you don’t want to use the seatbelt law has a comparison fine take any Law you want and compare it to now. My point is we were never truly free and quite frankly we can’t be. Society would be more of a shittt show then it already is.
We have to have laws and they obviously need to be adapted has times change.
My comment on other vaccines being ok. I get the covid one is new and I am not saying everyone should just be ok taking it. You have that right to not want to.
What I am saying is people should be against alll vaccine mandates not just this one if you are against the covid one.
I get why some vaccines are mandated but I also see why they should not be mandated. I don’t pick and chose when i think something is not right because it’s fits or doesn’t fit my personal agenda.
No one has really “convinced” me how anything going on now is different from any other law except that they don’t agree with it and don’t think it’s working. Which is fine your opinion and when it really comes down to it you have a choice On not listening to it.
Again I am not even for any of these mandates I just don’t buy into all the gloom and doom people are making it seem when I feel it’s nothing different that has what has been going on forever.
Also I’m not calling out anyone on this site I see a lot of craziness over social media!!
PS chiliswife I would love to know what conspiracy theories have been proven to be right. Not because I don’t believe you but more because I am really am interested!!

I would have to agree that your comment sounds privileged
There is nothing privileged about it.
JMO.
I agree initially this all made sense. People were getting very sick and dying at record numbers. There was so much fear and uncertainty.
But the vaccine and therapeutics have helped the situation a lot.
It isn’t ever going to go away and many of these mandates don’t make sense or seem to have an end. We were teased last year being told it was over once we got to 70% vaccination and getting all of those stupid fireworks. And here we are…
Fauci did say he feels this year all mandates will be gone but who knows.

Why should someone not be able to be against a Covid vaccine but not others? If you took the Polio vaccine three times and got Polio, wouldn’t you be upset and question that it was not working like intended? Covid is ok to get but not Polio or other deadly things?
You can very well pick and choose other vaccines, not all are mandated for school or work or to do things in life.

The minute it was realized this particular vaccine did not stop transmission and spread every single mandate of it should have been vacated. Period. That is when these mandates became about power and control and not about public health.

Exactly. This is not a vaccine like ones mandated to go to school or visit certain countries. Why anyone thinks differently and thinks it should be mandated, boggles my mind.
We were all sold something that did not work like they told us it was intended to and instead of getting mad, like people normally would with other things in life, they keep believing these people who have no clue what they are talking about.

To your point, I think what gets lost in the argument about "oppressive government" is that mandates (health or otherwise) and laws are necessary and critical for society to function. Certainly one doesn't have to agree with everything but the reality is that sometimes we as a society need to do things that are for "the greater good". It's not always about us as the individual, society doesn't function that way.
Any and all mandates regarding COVID that were initially put into place were for the safety and protection of our society as a whole in an effort to mitigate and control this pandemic. As things change, so should the mandates. No question. But to continually call out this nation as being a dictatorship simply because one doesn't agree with things or doesn't like to be "told what to do" shows a lack of understanding of what a true dictatorship is. Nothing that's taken place in the last two years has remotely resembled a dictatorship unless you consider having to wear a small piece of cloth on your face the cruelest form of human oppression imaginable.

"Form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations."
"A dictator is someone who has absolute power — or who at least behaves as if they do by bossing others around. In government, a dictator is a ruler who has total control over a country, with no checks or balances to prevent abuse of power. Dictator can also describe someone who acts like that on a smaller scale."
Cuomo and Hochul and Deblasio are AB.SO.LUTE dictators. Look at other states who have lifted mandates or barely had any for almost 2 years and how well they are doing and the difference in mental health they have.
