Traveling solo

I just booked a very short trip away for myself and I’m feeling anxious about it now. I just decided I’m tired of crappy weather, work, men, lol, and need to get away and see the sun so I booked a weekend trip to Fort Lauderdale which I figured would be easy enough logistically and not terribly expensive. I figured I’d sit by the pool or beach, day drink, take some thirst trap selfies and maybe get a new Tinder profile pic out of it ;). I felt empowered doing it but now I kind of feel sad that I won’t have any company and I’m thinking about canceling. Has anyone done a trip like this?

I've gone sole to Europe. It's not bad at all. You'll meet people, families, couples and singles. In the hotels there's always someone. It's sad I'm sure to be going alone. but, nothing beats at times. You can always come home, it's not too far. Enjoy

adding, I met people I'm still friends with today, one is a couple, they live upstate. I hope to visit with them this summer.

The only trip I took alone was in 1991 when I was in my 20s. I had just gotten laid off from my job and I figured by the time I got a new job, I would have to wait a year for vacation time. None of my friends could take vacation, so I went by myself. I went to Italy for two weeks. I went on a bus tour for the first week and then spent the second week with some relatives. So, I technically wasn't alone, but I didn't know anyone on the tour. And, I travelled alone from Rome to my relatives' town on the train.

Please don't cancel your trip. It's only a weekend -- you never know what will happen!

Re: Traveling solo

I have not but I have fantasized about it. And doing Fort Lauderdale would be my choice because it's so easy. I'd fly out of Islip which is right near my house, get down there, take an Uber to an awesome resort and just lay all day by the pool and beach.

Don't cancel. Once you get there you will be glad you did it.
You don't need company on a trip like that- bring a great book, order drinks and food by the pool, room service if you want... especially if it's a short trip I'm sure you will enjoy the solitude.

Have fun! I'm jealous! Chat Icon

Don't cancel!!
I've never done it but, honestly, it's a fantasy of mine to go away all by myself! I don't think I'd have the b@lls to do it, but do it, do it, do it!

Re: Traveling solo

When I traveled extensively for work I used to fly down a day or two in advance by myself all the time. I was young so I very rarely ate out at a sit down restaurant by myself but I did once or twice. That was also before smart phones so if you didn't have a book you were literally just sitting there. I always loved it! Going to the beach alone with a good book on my own schedule. Going shopping and sightseeing by myself. You can do what you want to do without having to worry about if someone else is bored or wants to do something else. Last year I was meeting my husband in Charleston and flew down a day early. Had dinner at the hotel by myself, walked around and went shopping and then had a drink at a bar. It was fabulous! Definitely don't cancel. If anything, if you don't like it you just don't do it again.

Re: Traveling solo

I have although it's been a while. I love it. And it's funny that I saw this today because I was just thinking I needed to do something like this. I am not enough of a beach/pool person - I need more activities if I am alone - but I know a lot of people would love something like this.

Don't cancel. GO! Enjoy, and then tell us about it!

Go! You will be so glad you did. If you feel like company - you will be able to strike up conversation with those around you.

I've done it several times. I think the first time, maybe even the first couple times, it seems strange and you feel like people are looking at you, but they're not. Everyone is doing their own thing. I have gone to movies and eaten out, gone to the beach, etc. It seems 'normal' to me now.

Do NOT cancel! You go and have fun!! I went to Aruba for 5 nights alone a couple of years ago. It was the best trip, ever! No one to worry about but myself! I spent my days at the beach, my nights sitting on the balcony watching the sunset while eating room service chocolate cake! It was glorious!! Enjoy!
