50th Birthday....
So my husband is turning 50 in July and would like to do something really nice. We go to Greenport every year and stay there because our boat is out there. I wanted to do something with all his friends.
I was thinking of a place on the water, and act like we are just going out to dinner to meet another couple and surprise him with everyone. Anyone recommend a place in Suffolk that does a buffet for about 40-50 people?
I would pay for food, do I have the guests pay for their drinks? (that can get pricey) Or is that tacky?

I understand where you're coming from but I do think it's tacky to host an event and not pay for the whole thing. You can probably limit to beer/wine/soda to cut the cost down though.

Re: 50th Birthday....
Agreed as we both had our parties at home and while our other parties everyone brings food and drinks, we provided everything for the 50th birthdays. I would say you should pay for everything.
Maybe Snapper Inn or View or Mamma Lombardi's on the water? Or are you looking only close to Greenport?

No, not looking in Greenport. Was thinking Drift 82, or other options.

I don't think you can host a party like that and not provide alcohol. If you want to cut costs maybe do it as a cocktail party or buffet.

Ahhh ok. Not familiar with that restaurant but maybe start there and then look at other places on the water if that is what you are looking for.

I don't know if Port Jeff is too far west for your party but there are multiple restaurants that could hold that many.
I would offer beer/wine/soda and if they want a mixed drink they can pay for those themselves. We have been to multiple and also hosted multiple parties that did that. People were fine paying for mixed drinks but you should offer something.

I live in Middle Island, so Port Jeff is good.

How about trying Lessings? They own a lot of different restaurants and party venues. I've been to a few and the food has always been good.
And, I agree with other posters -- you have to at least offer beer and wine and soda.

Danfords, Fifth Season, Port Jeff Country Club, Saghar (american and indian food - delicious), Ruvo, Old fields. Billies is there too if your looking for a more bar atmosphere.

Re: 50th Birthday....
Fatfish in Bayshore is nice and on the water and they probably can accommodate a reasonably priced party. But yes, you have to provide drinks. You can do a beer/wine package only to cut costs but you definitely have to provide something.
Snapper Inn as well as they have different rooms and areas to host different sized parties
Also try Nicky's on the Bay in Bayshore

Saghar has a rooftop area you can do for a party with views of the water.
