Anyone been to statue of liberty/Ellis Island recently? edited in op
Looking for tips. I'd like to see both in one day Tia!
Update 4.22.23 saturday had the perfect day on Ellis island. Highly recommend the hard hat tour! absolutely worth every penny. private tour of about 16 people with a volunteer guide who shows you the very spooky TB hospital and grounds that are off limits to the public.
We also spent a lot of time in the museum proper, they give you a free audio guide and there are fascinating artifacts and a lot of history to learn about the immigration process and the island.
we took the first boat out of battery park. the later boats get very full (on the weekend) and you have to wait to get the ferry back to manhattan and the lines are long, there is a possibility of not getting on a boat and having to wait. If it's boiling hot or freezing or raining this would suck.
we scheduled the statue of liberty for the fall.

I did it a while ago - but make sure you book it well in advance if you are going on a day that there is no school. The ferry books up fast. We did both in one day without a problem.

I went in September 2021...so not that recent, but not that long ago. We saw both in one day. You need to prebook the ferry and admission to the statue (if you want. you could only go into the pedestal at that time, not sure what the deal is now). We spent the most time at Liberty Island, but would love to go back and do the hard hat tour of Ellis Island. Any specific questions?

Re: Anyone been to statue of liberty/Ellis Island recently?
thanks for the replies; we want to do the hard hat tour so we called to book everything all at once. they recommended two days to have enough time for both the walk up to the crown and the hard hat tour. so we are doing the hard hat tour this Saturday and we booked the statue for September.

I mean, I can understand needing two days to go to the crown and do the hard hat tour. Both would take a few hours each. We only went to the pedestal and did not take a hard hat tour and it was a long day. The islands are small, but there is a lot to see. We were exhausted by the end.

I definitely will report back! You might want to give the tour booker a call to see least busy times etc especially if school will be out when you go.
you can only buy through them, they tell you to beware of scammers

yeah dh is not in the mood for me to drag him to and fro in one day, those days are long gone so i'm glad we broke it up also i want to really enjoy and learn rather than rush through. it's our first time going there together (and since we were young) and will probably be our last

Thank you for the update. I have been to Ellis Island a few times, but never did the hard hat tour. It may be time to go back!
