Summer getaway for 4-5 days
Looking to go away in August with another family same ages as my kids. 14 and 12 year old all boys.
We have done Rehoboth Beach, DE. Looking to try maybe another town there. What about Ocean City?
Also considering Lake George. If you can recommend hotels or something that would be great. Thanks

Re: Summer getaway for 4-5 days
We did Ocean City a few years ago, and really liked it. However, there really isnt a whole lot to do, except the beach, boardwalk, and there is an amusement park at the end of the boardwalk. The seafood is amazing there.
We always love Lake George. So much to do. We have always stayed at Surfside on the Lake. They completely renovated it. They now include all kayak, paddleboard, and pedal boat rentals at no charge anymore. It is centrally located, so you can walk into town.

I really like Lake George. One day you can rent a boat and go tubing. There is a rodeo close by to spend the night at. Tubing is close by and fun. There is a Great Escapes. I like to stay at Scotty's or Surfside...lots to do on property and the town is walking distance.

It's been a while. Any hotel recommendations?
Any of the Icona Resorts are wonderful. There is one in Diamond Beach- full service and absolutely amazing. It's right outside of Wildwood (in a quieter, more residential area) and they will shuttle you to the Boardwalk and also to Cape May.
The Cape May location is absolutely beautiful but small. Tiny cocktail type pool and no restaurant onsite- but they will shuttle you to the Diamond Beach location to use their facilities and restaurant.
In Cape May the Ocean Club also looks nice- but I haven't stayed there.
And this summer a newly renovated resort is being opened- it's called the Mahalo Cape May (same company as Icona, just another division) and it looks like it's going to be amazing too. They are basically gut renovated an older hotel.

Re: Summer getaway for 4-5 days
I went to take Lake George over Easter Break and stood in Putnam county/town. We rented a house by the lake that had access to a dock and canoes. The kids had a lot of fun and the views were beautiful.
I second Cape May, LBI is cool if you want a more chill beach vibe.
Eta: idk which Ocean City you were referring too but I love Ocean City Maryland.

Summer getaway for 4-5 days
Ocean City NJ and Ocean City Maryland are fun
Wildwood is a mess. Super crowded, long walk to the water. My kids weren't really a fan of it.

That's why we don't stay there. I find it very sketchy and run down. We stay in Diamond Beach-one town over. Quiet, residential, more upscale. Beautiful private beach. They will shuttle you to Wildwood if you want to go to the Boardwalk and rides etc. 100% better experience.

Re: Summer getaway for 4-5 days
We stayed last year at a Quality Inn. I know its sounds stech. But it wasn't and so happy we stayed there.
It was on 5400 Coastal Highway. We stayed on the main floor, so we opened our sliding door and walked down 3 steps and were on the sand. It was so nice.
They has a indoor and outdoor pool, an indoor and outbar bar. And they have a cool atrium, with fish, turtles and exotic birds. Some you can pet and feed. They had a arcade and I feel like they had an outdoor playground, but I dont think we used it.

Re: Summer getaway for 4-5 days
We've done Ocean City Maryland for two summers. I have a 14, 12, and 3 year old. There is something for everyone. The boardwalk is fun, food is great. We enjoyed the beach and the hotel pool. There is jet skiing and parasailing. We also did mini golf. We like Lake George also but I went when my older kids were 3 and 5 so we were limited with the adventurous things to do there.

So I have never been to Ocean City but I was scrolling FB today and this came up in an ad for Groupon and this place looks beautiful in Ocean City MD. I thought of this thread so figured I'd share.

Re: Summer getaway for 4-5 days
WE did Lake Placid and Stowe VT during Covid with two teens and they both loved it. You can take the cable cars up the mountain in stowe, walk around the village, ride bikes on a great bike trail, go zip lining. We loved Lake placid for the town itself and I know we did some outdoor stuff but I cannot remember what it was :) but we all really enjoyed our trip. We stopped in Lake George on our way up and it was just not our vibe.

We also love Cape Cod. It is our happy place second to Fire Island.
I highly recommend The Chatham Bars Inn or the Wequasset Resort in Harwich. The Wychmere is also very nice.
