School supply question

This may be a dumb question but the supply list this year includes 4 marble notebooks but they ask that we color the edges of the paper of each book a different color. Wouldn't it just make more sense to have us buy the colored marble notebook instead of having to color the pages?

Anyone know the reason for this specific request?

You can certainly do that but the purpose is to quickly identify the notebook inside the desk and you can do that by coloring the pages.
In my class, if I say to take out the spelling notebook, I'll say take out your red notebook. They can spot it right away without taking anything out.

I also have them write their initials on the sides too.

My kids schools asked for the different color notebooks and they colored the sides as well - like pp said.

Thank you! So just use marker to color the edges?

I allow my students to choose what they want to use. And it doesn’t have to be a solid coloring. Just a swipe of color to identify it. I do all 3 sides too because some kids put their notebooks in sideways.

Yep! You can use a marker to color the edges. They do this at my kids' school too.
