We did it a few times when I was a kid. We would drive for about 14 hours the first day and 10 the next! I always loved the signs for South of the Border.

OMG there is like 500 signs for Pedro Chat Icon

OK, back to the topic, sorry Michal...

Although your idea of a one way drive sounds great. Have you thought about flying both ways? You may find some great deals on JetBlue or Delta. DH's family flew here for Thanksgiving on AirTran for $69 each way. They got the tix the month of.

It may be cheaper than gas & a rental. The prices are prob too high right now, but I bet they'll go down.

Re: Driving to Florida

Sasha - believe you me - we looked at the prices - ]Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

$1500 for the two of us to go to FL in Feb!Chat Icon

I'm hoping they'll go down but I dont' think they will b/c it's primo school vacation time.

Renting is actually relatively cheap - something like $169 if we only have it for a day - of course that doesn't include tolls and gas - but it seems so much cheaper!

Try AirTran though. I just did a quick random search from NY to Ft. Lauderdale in Feb and prices are $89 each way.

I DO LOVE THE SOUTH! Chat Icon

We are going in April during easter. We looked at airfare 300.00 EACH WAY FOR EACH OF US Chat Icon Chat Icon That why we are going to drive! I can't spend 1200 on airfare when I could fly to florida during other times and pay 59.00
Although last year I got airfare during spring break for 79.00 Remember that Michal Chat Icon

Yeah, I think right now it's too expensive. It's about luck, really. My MIL flew down her whole family (6 pple) and she paid around $800 RT the week of Thanksgiving...she got really lucky.

Re: Driving to Florida

Check also Southwest. They fly out of Long Island and rates are about $99 each way.

My dad booked Jetblue for Feb 2 - 5 for $99 each way as well.

We drive to Orlando and that takes about 18 hours. I would think it would take at least 2 or 3 more hours to get to South Florida!

Have fun! I personally love the ride!
