Losing my sister.....and my mind

I dont even know where to start. My 27 year old sister was diagnosed back in Oct with stage 4 Melanoma. Since then she has been in Sloan and everyday the news just keeps getting worse. They cant seem to stabilize her blood counts anymore. All they keep telling us is that she somehow needs a miracle. I am the strong one in the family and since it is just her and my parents I am being leaned on in every direction and I am not sure how to let out all of my emotions without bring any of them down. My parents lean on me a lot and my mom last night was having a break down and basically said not only am I going to be losing my only sister but I am going to be losing them because they know they are not going to be an use to me anymore and that they will never be happy again. I am the furthest thing from selfish but this just made me crash even harder. My DH and I have been TTC since September, I had a miscarriage in Nov, but we decided that we were going to try again. Do you feel this is wrong for me to try to go ahead with my life with all of this going on? I am not sure I how should be handling my parents? Sorry for such a long email just do not know where to turn. My DH has been wonderful but I feel bad bringing him down all of the time...

I am so sorry- I couldn't even imagine losing my sister- and I lost my Mother

and got engagaed on the same day- I felt odd about it - but having something positive to focus on- a wedding- just like a new baby- can be the thing that saves your family

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I think that whatever you need to do to keep sane throughout this ordeal is what you need to do. Don't feel selfish.

I am so sorry to hear all you are dealing with. I think it is wonderful that you continue to TTC with everything going on around you. And hopefully you are successful and will give your parents a reason to be happy again someday

Im so sorry. Im sure your Mom only said that in the heat of grief. If you want to try moving on in your life than that's what you need to do. Good luck and God Bless!!

Thank you ladies for all of support and kind words. Again this has to be the hardest thing I have ever gone through and the biggest challenge. You never realize what role you play in a family until something horrible happens. My mom is have a difficult time which is understandable but I am not really sure how to handle it but I guess that will all come in time. All of you are an inspiration to me. You never realize how much a person has gone through or what they are capable of handling until you hear their stories.

I wish all of you happiness in your futures with many angels to watch over you.

My parents' first grandchild was born a few weeks before my mom died. I think meeting her first grandchild was one of her most joyful moments and I think that his birth, and that of his sister a few years afterwards really helped bring some of the joy back to our family.

It's tough to always be the strong one.
