Even if they did they would loose becaue of what they did. But the big question in a suit is the cost of the law firm that will handle yoru case.
OK so I plan to do copyright/trademark infringement...I should go to Law school first so that I can defend myself and afford legal fees.

if it were only that easy. you need a person that specializes in copyright or intellectual property. a very specialized field.

GO LIWS!! 
Intellectual Property aka patent/tradeark/copyright cases are VERY expensive to litigate.. I do all the billing for my lawyers (since I am the AA to the chair of the department, i see firsthand what we bill out to our clients.. its in the MILLIONS every month  ) BUT we deal with huge corporations who have that type of $$ to defend their intellectual property!
They can drag on for years and often, the attorneys who prosecute and/or defend these types of cases are some of the most expensive in the entire legal field

if you have a pretty much slam dunk case you use them. they don't cost you and work pretty fast.

But that's actually average for a senior partner at a big NYC lawfirm

wow what firm? I used Milbank and a senior partner at only $550. I feel good now because I got a deal!
