How are you saving for retirement?
I am curious about this. Home ownership and my retirement is a big thing for me. I am not counting on Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid to be there for me.  How is everyone preparing?

i know both dh and i contribute to our company 401k. i think he also has some sort of ira or something but i'm not sure.

Well, since I've been with my job more than 10 years I am now vested in the NYS retirement system.

We both contribute to our companies 401k. We would like to save additional money, but right now it's all about the wedding and saving for a house.

I have a roth IRA & we have 401K plans at work. I work for State Farm so I am surrounded by insurance. The way SS is going...who knows if it will still be atound by the time I retire. It's something to really think about even if you are still young. My parents had an annuity which they rolled over to Sate Farm because the rates they offer are awesome.

I currently have a 401K with my company. I also have 2 or 3 IRA's. My husband has hopped jobs very often and doesn't have a 401K or anything yet. We're hoping his new job will be more stable and he can start with their 401K next year when he is fully vested.

we do put into our retirement plans (NYS for me...401k for hubby), but we have been doing very well in stocks (my parents pushed me into t with savings I had when I was young...and thankful for...and DH had some great stock options)...and real estate (DH has real estate all over the place when we married - from inheritence and just being in the right place at the right time)

I have a 401k and a Roth IRA right now. We have nothing yet going for Dh, but we are planning on starting a Roth IRA for him this year.

401K with my company eta: I'm really just using it as a "savings" account for when we buy a house. I will borrow against it, if need be, and then repay it.

I feel like doing both- saving for a house AND returement is a little overwhelming for me. I am trying to figure our how to do both without stretching ourselves too thin.

i have something similar. i have trs, teachers retirement. i already have like $500 contributed after 8 months, and when things get more normal, i'll have more taken out.
