We have two - one is a SOny that we've had for a few years and the qualty is very good. The other is from samsung and we got it last yr - that one we LOVE!

We have two. Both Sharp Aquos, and love them.
We got the 30" in 2004 when that was as big as they got.
We got the 42" one a few months ago and mounted it over the fireplace...it's RIDICULOUS to watch HD on it...

my parents have two sharp aquos and love them - the picture is very clear also they do not have glare problems which is nice
i know my dad just bought the 52.5 sharp aquos 1080p - he is happy but i haven't seen it yet

We bought a Magnavox 32" in July well I can tell you DON'T buy it! We already had to take it for repairs. The parts were covered but service was not $$130. I will never buy that again. Go with a SONY you can't lose

We just researched and bought a 60" Phillips TV. I believe a rear projection DLP TV is better than an LCD screen but you might want to look into it further to see wht's best for you guys. My DH wanted size over resolution and it's only 1280X720 and NOT good enough so make sure you get a 1080i or something. Also you need an HDMI cable to hook it up it makes a HUGE difference and an HD box from Cablevision if you have them. Good luck, have fun...I am still reaping rewards for getting him his about 2 weeks ago

we have two. a 46" Sony Bravia and a 32 inch Sony Bravia XBR I think. Both excellent TVs so far.

We have the Samsung LCD and we love it..
The only thing about the LCD/HD's is that the programs that don't come in HD look a little funny. The networks look awesome, and sports is A MUST - but... you can't see the HD unless you have HD cable- you'll need the new box from your cable provider.
He'll love it, regardless of which brand you go with. For me, it was b/t the Sony/Samsung.
Samsung is a huge supporter of Boomer Esiason's foundation for Cystic Fibrosis- so I bought that brand for that reason.

We just got a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV. So far we love it, although I wish there was a little more room in my entertainment center for it  We eventually plan on putting it on the wall, though. I can't tell you much about it, because dh picked it out, but it seems to work great!

Wanted to warn you on the Sony. While I have no problems with my Sony TV (not an LCD - old fashioned tube), I bought a Sony DVD player & CD player in 2002 and they both crapped out on us by 2005. And I've heard this from other people as well. The DVD player would overheat and skip, or restart from the beginning, and the CD player constantly skipped. I'll always second-guess Sony now.
ETA: That all being said, I've no experience with their LCDs.

We want to buy one as soon as we move into our house. We are leaning towards a Aquos bc they are less expensive than the Bravia's but we havent totally decided yet. Probably a 42 inch.

We have the Westinghouse 30" LCD in our bedroom. The quality is great and it was so inexpensive. We got it 2 years ago and no problems.
We just bought the Panasonic 42" plasma for the living room and we've never seen a crisper picture... the HD is amazing!

Can those who have both tell me which they like better and why?

I don't have a plasma but the reason we chose LCD is the glare factor. The screen on LCDs are not glass or plexiglass and they don't have any glare.

Thanks so much! We really do not like our now and will eventually put it in our bedroom if it lasts that long. We will upgrade in a year or so for the living room.

We purchased our 37 inch sharp aquos in 2005. We love it. My parents just purchased a 42 inch Sony. I still like the picture quality of ours more, but I would love the 42 inch one.

Own Viewsonic and Phillips LCD and a plasma.. quality is similar for the different techonoglys...
sharp does offer nice products but if you are looking for budget busters (less name brand products) go for it. Not many will see a huge difference in picture compared ot the savings.
I brought a 50" maxent plasma for 1400 and it very compareable to 3000 dollor panosonic (my maxent has alot of the same parts in panosonic)
Don't find the cheapest one but deals can be found at warehouse places (costco is where we shop)
And detail questions, feel free to ask. The biggest ? is the contrast ratio. Make sure its high 1200:1 or 1500:1

Plasma definitely has a better picture. LCD's are a little cheaper and don't come in larger sizes.
Panasonic and Pioneer are the best in the industry when it comes to plasma. Panasonic supplies parts for most all plasma manufactures. Most displays are made by Panasonic.
