Mortgages
I seriously can't take paying rent anymore...... we need to buy a house.
How does everyone pick on a place to get a mortgage from?

Re: Mortgages
we haven't bought yet but we got pre-approved at 2 different banks. one was WAMU and the was USAA.
honestly, I would call them ALL and see who gives you the best rate. that's what we'll do where were finally ready.

Re: Mortgages
Take recommendations. I support HSBC and WAMU and went there for pre-approval.
I know Lorich used a different mortgage lending co that she highly recommends, but I forgot the name of it.
Others have used mortgage brokers.
Go with what your comfortable with, check out the various rates being offered and GOOD LUCK! We'll all be here to support your every move.

Re: Mortgages
went with a few banks. I shopped it around and put one against the other. Got the best rate by doing that. I have started to use a broker in the past but was less than impressed.
So far we have used Chase and Wells Fargo. Mortgage wise, Chase was better overall. As a bank I think they stink but because we had accounts there with a certain amt they gave us a very good rate with a discount on closing costs.

Ditto!
My advise....your first time homebuyers...go to LIHP - LI Housing Partnership. Meet with Lynn Law for mortgage counseling. She'll review your finances, etc. Explain everything there is to know. With our meeting with her she pointed us towards BOA. Now, we went to BOA direct and got horrible results - they as every other bank we saw offered mtgs with PMI or 20 loans - like an 80/20. The loan we rec'd from BOA through LIHP we financed 97% at ONE rate - 6.125%...THAT'S it! It's a HUGE savings.

We did the same thing! Our mortgage is through ABN Amro (which was recently purchased by Citigroup).
