second child/siblings

My husband and I have a 4 month old. We want more children, but aren't sure how far apart n age they shoulkd be. Does anyone have their first and second child 18 months apart, or less than two years apart?
how is it?
I am soooo in love with my Kyle that I am afraid if we have another child before he is 2, I will be too busy or involved with the new baby that I won't give him enough attention. Anyone have this situation that has advice. Thanks

Too funny you posted this. DH was saying this AM "When is #2 coming?"..I just stared at him. Especially with all ive posted about his work hours lately.
We are debating the same thing. 2 under 2 or wait until DS is 2.
(Plan it so if we are lucky enough to have another, the baby would be born after DS's 2nd bday).
My SIL is pg with #2. My nephew and the new baby will be about 20 months apart. Sometimes I do think that's the way to go.

Re: second child/siblings

I am 7 months pg with #2 and while I can't comment on how hard/easy it will be, I can forsee I Can't be THAT badChat Icon

DD will be 14 months old when #2 is born.

Parents have so much love to give, i don't think #1 will feel that mommy and daddy dont' pay attention to her anymore. I am actually worried it will be the other way around, the new baby wont' get that much attention since she just sits and stays wherever i put her and DD is ALL over the place.

We can't wait, they will be close in age, we are still in baby mode so the transition as I see it won't be hard at all. I haven't slept well since before i was pg with DD and I don't plan on it until the girls go to kindergardenChat Icon

Re: second child/siblings

my two are 20 months apart, i was pregnant with number 2 when my first was 11 months old. jmo but i found the transition from one baby to two not hard at all!!!and this is coming from a person that never even held a baby before my own. and from a person who has very little help from family. I didnt need to buy any major items for baby 2, cause all of it was new from my first. ie(bouncer, pack and play, swing, crib, exersaucer). all i needed was new clothes for baby 2. and at 20 months my first was on a nice routine by then, so i just worked baby #2 into that. it was nice transition. i wouldnt change that age gap for anything. i find it perfect. not to mention, now they are 4 and 2.5 years old and are the best playmates.Chat Icon and believe me you will have plenty of love for baby #2.

I felt exactly how you feel about whether or not #1 will feel neglected and that is why we waited on having #2. Now I regret waiting so long. DS is almost 2.5 and I see now that he's getting lonely and wish that I could've given him a brother or sister sooner Chat Icon

Re: second child/siblings

My kids are exactly two years apart and it really isn't that hard. Jack is a very active and shall we say "spirited" toddler so the hard part is just keeping tabs on him. The baby is cake. I like that they are two years apart...still close in age but not like having two babies in the house.

I am already growing sad at how fast Molly has grown and how it seems so different with #2 in that you just don't get the same 1 on 1 time that you did with #1. I think we may have one more and I want to wait until Molly is 2, so that way when the baby comes Jack will be in kindergarten.

Mine are 16 months apart. I understand how you feel, but I can honestly say that I've still been able to have 1 on 1 time with both of them, as well as playing with them both at the same time. Plus, I don't think she remembers being the only one at all anymore, so there's no jealousy. There was in the beginning, but I spoke to my doctor and he had warned me of all the potential issues so we were pretty prepared for that.

I can spend one on one time with them while the other naps, since my daughter takes 1 nap a day and my son takes 2 naps. When they are both up, I can play with both, like this morning my son was playing with the leapfrog alphabet ball, so my daughter and I were singing and dancing along with the alphabet song, which made my son laugh. I can have him in my lap and her right next to me when reading books.

I think it's a great age difference, it's been a lot of fun! Chat Icon

Mine are almost 2 years apart, almost to the day (May 6th and 9th). I did not find the transition to be very hard. Don't get me wrong, there were days I was pulling my hair out, but overall, it just works. My DS loves his little sister, and DD loves to laugh with him, its so cute to watch! My nearly 3 year old was 2 when she came along, and he has no recollection of what life was like without her. Which in a sense made it easier. HE didn't have time to realize he was an only for awhile, if that makes sense.
