Pee pee help - moms of boys - what the @#%& is going on here????
Cailen keeps getting a big wet spot on his BACK!!! Some days he does not, but then there are days where I have to change him 10 times because everytime he pees, it goes right to his back - and it happens also when we are holding him, which means we get all wet too... The strange thing is, the front of his diaper manages to stay dry... Its the strangest thing!
I don't think its the diaper because there will be days when his diaper is soaked, but there is no wet spot on his back. Right now we are using Huggies Newborns, they fit him great. I pull it up, close it nice and tight, make sure there are no openings... Also, I try and aim his little doo dad down, but its so teeny ( ) that it just "pops" right back up!
What else can I do? Last night, everytime he woke up for his feeding, I had to change him, his clothes, his bassinet, and his blanket! Needless to say that today is laundry day!

The only thing is to point it down and hold it down while you seal up the diaper. That should solve it. Sorry - I've been there!

Yes, welcome to the strange world of boys. my son always did that. His back was always wet. My Dh was convinced there was no way he could pee his back, that he had to be sweating But he slept on his back and it was happening. It did end eventually, but I agree, changing everything in the middle of the night was pain!

Do you put a lot of diaper creme or vaseline on the front of him? That may be rubbing off on the diaper, making the front less absorbant than the back.

Hey ladies!
Yes, I point his peeny down, but it pops right up - I try and push it down, keep it down while sealing the diaper, but it still pops up!!! (Men!!! )
And as for cream - in the middle of the night, I don't always remember to put ointment on (bad mommy!) so its not like thats affecting absorbency!
Glad to see I'm not alone with this - thought for sure that I was just going thru a spastic new mom experience (and maybe I am!)

Does he sleep on his back? I just remembered that Andy always rolled to his side, and he'd have a wet spot on that side. Maybe when they are little they pee so fast it's too much for the little diapers to absorb?

This used to happen to Steven every night. Don't know why, and sorry I don't have any solutions, but yes, I have been there and know exactly how you feel
Try holding it down, though it's difficult when they are that small because every time you change them they are erect.

Maybe try getting those Diaper Doublers. I believe they are like little sanitary pads that go into the diaper. Maybe they will help absorb the pee pee in the back?
p/s - I know I have a girl, so I know nothing about this, but why do you have to point the "peeny" down? Wouldn't it absorb better into the diaper if it were pointed up? Sorry for the stupid question.

Re: Pee pee help - moms of boys - what the @#%& is going on here????
My DS was doing this too. The only thing that seems to work is pointing him down. I am obsessive over it now! I will put the diaper on, then go back and open one side and make sure he is pointing down. It has been working for us. My DH thinks I am crazy b/c every time he changes a diaper I am babbling away about making sure he is pointing down!!

One time I said to DH "Geez, how hard is it to remember? Don't you have to point yours down too?" At which point he reminded me that he's potty trained.

Vincent has the same problem. When I put him on an angle in his crib it doesn't happen. I noticed when he lays on his side or flat on his back he soaks up his back.

Re: Pee pee help - moms of boys - what the @#%& is going on here????
I went through that too and it lasted I think about 6 weeks. It was so annoying to change the bassinet sheets at night. I got wise and started to put the sheet savers that would tie to the crib and used that on the bassinet. I just tucked the ties under the mattress and if he leaked I put put another down. I would try also switching diapers. When he was that small Pampers swaddlers worked the best.

If you don't point it down they can pee right through the top of the diaper

for some reason i never had that problem w/either of my boys, but i heard of those diaper doubles solve the problem,,,i think they may carry them at buy buy baby... also, what kind of diapers are you using? I always used pamper swaddlers because i remember huggies leaked-yet my friends w/baby girls loved huggies!

I used Swaddlers and had less problems with them than Huggies. Have you tried them?

I thought the same thing.. that DS was sweating. We were using Huggies and we changed to Luvs and he didn't have the problem anymore.

Re: Pee pee help - moms of boys - what the @#%& is going on here????
I have to double up at night and for long car rides or else he and everything else is soaked.
I use a reg diaper and then a pull up or training pant diaper over it.
It is soo annoying but stops the leaking.

So interesting to read and prepare for these things!!
My baby care class instructor said it's useless to point them down because they automatically point back up when they have to pee.

I believe that!
I think we bought the Huggies and the Pampers - I'm almost done with the Huggies so I will see how the Pampers work out for us!

You might want to go up to the size 1 diapers. Shane was always leaking until we went up a size.
