Ladies I need help and advice, I am really worried about my Dad...
He's been complaining of pain in his shoulder, he went to the doctor and it turns out to be arthritus ( I know it's spelled wrong) anyways that is not even the bad part. They said he has Hepatitis A and C... I was like what??? I've heard you can get Hepaptitus A from dirty feces. He works at my cousin's bakery which i'm sure is not the most sanitary place... But how the heck did he get C??? Isn't that from sharing needles??? The doctor had to ask if he's ever done drugs. Which of course he hasn't. He's about 68 years old. He's old school Italian. I just don't understand how he could have gotten C. And it concerns me cuz C attacks the liver and can cause liver cancer. I'm scared...He's around DS a lot and I know you can't get it by touching but he's going to have throughly wash his hands after he goes to the bathroom. DS has had Hepatitis shots. I think he's had shots for A and B. I'm gonna call his Ped. and ask if there are any precautions I can take.
Do any of you ladies know of anyone with Hepatitis A or C? I'm really scared and worried about my Dad...
I was going to post under a new name but I need some support and I don't want it under a fake name.

My aunt's husband contracted HepC from a blood transfusion in the 80's before they started screening for it. His is managed by diet and meds, my aunt says they alter his mood. That's really all I know about it.
Good luck to your dad.

Right now he's tired mostly. He's going back to the doctor on Wednesday. Hopefully to discuss his treatment. He's in pain from his arthritus. I just don't understand how he got C. He hasn't had any blood transfusions either...

my mom has hep c....back in mid 90s she had to inject herself with needles into her stomach- she had to do this for a while....i think it was from back in day (hint- my name is summer and she grew up in the 60s and 70s... ) i think that once u have it, you always do--my mom said her hep c is in remission, and has been since it came out over 15 years ago, but i think it can come out at any time...as far as her begin around my child?? well, my child is her 7th grandkid (out of 9), and the other kids have been around her ALL the time since they were born....im pretty sure its safe for me to say not to sweat it...itll get taken care of (maybe they do those shots still...?) and keep your head up!!!

I have the same concerns. Last summer, my MIL said she was exposed, but she hasn't gotten tested yet.
I am going to ask pediatrian what preventive steps are necessary if she was ever to visit.
I think she is scared to be tested, and has kept her distance for that reason.
I am sorry to hear about your dad.

Re: Ladies I need help and advice, I am really worried about my Dad...
Well, it is important to get a 2nd opinion. Last year my son 38 was told he hep. A, well maybe B and well maybe C. He had blood tests every other day by the local doc, his wife pregnant had to be tested, and he was scared to be near his daughter age 3. To cut a very long story short, after I hit the ceiling and insisted he got a 2nd opinion, from a Nth Shore doc, my doc gave me names, he had tests, turned out he did not have and never had hepatitus, false positive................so one never knows............
