I responded with, "I'll let it go that you just said that to the HR person because while I'm not litigious, it's going to take a bigger raise if you want me back after the baby."

Many times for NOT being Jewish

with the name Beth (which is really short for Elizabeth), the way I look, and being from LI

friends grandmothers have walked away from me once they found out, guys would ask me out, then they would want to confirm I am Jewish- when I said I was catholic- I was treated more like a w h o r e , then someone they wanted to date

many times for being Italian- when I went away to school in CO, and by my own Grandmother (Dad's)

and sometimes in NY- for not being Italian enough- b/c my Dad is Irish- which caused my husbands Grandma not to come to our wedding

Just stumbled upon this...

But, I was once spit on while riding a train in DC. The girls walked by us (my family - little cousins and everything - and apparently, although I didn't notice until after, the only white people on the train) and said "I hate white people" and hocked a loogie on my aunt and I. Nice, huh?

Not so much racism- but more ignorance. While traveling in Louisiana with Jewish teen tour, a grown woman asked to see my horns. She wasn't being mean- she honestly thought that all Jews had horns

I very politely explained where that concept came from.

My husband had this happen to him too!!!!

a few times...

the first time when was I went to work in Walt Disney World for a summer internship. I had 5 roomates...and they seemed to think that just because I was Italian and from NY I was in the Mob. They also thought that I wasn't as smart as them because of my thick Long Island Accent

The 2nd time...was on a cruise ship
My X-boyfriend is Brazilian and his features are ealisy mistaken for African American. On this particular cruise a group of young black girls kept making comments about me every time I walk near them...stuff like.."white girl stealing another one of our brothers" on that same cruise one of the performers jump on my X's lap and told and made some comment about being with a sister would be more satisfying than some ity bity white girl. Tears started falling down my face and the cruise director who witness this poor behavior came over to me and offer me and my X a couples massage in the spa to make up for the performer's rude comment...it was a nice gesture but it really didn't help me feel better...everywhere we turned on this cruise we were being critized for being from different races. It was horrible.

A few years ago I was working in the city and I was going to my then fiance's house on the train. It was pretty late and a group of teenagers got on. They were trying to intimidate me saying things like "white b***h"
One of them said to her friend, give me $5 and "I'll knock that white ***** out". One said "punch her in her blue eyes"

I really wasnt afraid but am thankful that a police officer came into the car

Yes for being hispanic, for being overweight and for being a teen mother.

I remember going to a local library for a mommy and me type class and having all the older moms sit together giving me odd looks and whispering about me because at the time i was 19.

Another time I was at a job interview and the person who was interviewing me asked me about my life and I told her I had a son and she looked at me and said "well Im sure he is really close to your mother" when I asked her why she would think that she said " well someone your age can't possibly raise a child". Needless to say I never got that job after I set her straight.

I was called 'White b*tch" pretty much everyday for 3 years of junior high.. it was endearing (my school was predominantly black).

It didnt bother me that much- i liked it better than getting beat up

Yes - when I was in college, I took a class on the Tanakh - simply because I was very interested in religion and found religious writings interesting. My class was pretty much entirely Jewish students, and I remember one class where they started to talk about how stupid it waas to believe in Jesus and how stupid Christians were. I remember it so vividly because the teach was laughing along. I was insulted partly because I was raised a Catholic, but mostly because I am a strong believe in religious tolerance.

Also I am discriminated against in my job because I am young and a female. The majority of the people I talk to are in their 40s-50s and male.
