Would you take matters into your own hands?

Now that I am a mother I feel that I think differently, or I should say more strongly, about certain things. We constantly hear nightmare stories on TV about people hurting children, killing children, etc. Even take into consideration if you have a teenage daughter and she was raped. Or if someone tried to kidnap your child.

As a parent, if someone hurt your child and you did not feel justice was served by our judicial system, would you take matters into your own hands?

I know it is kind of a morbid post, but definetely something I think about now being a mother.

Re: Would you take matters into your own hands?

As much as I would want to, I think I would have to leave things alone. And not take matters into my own hands.

it would take every bit of strength i had not to... but i think i would leave it alone, especially if it were a situation where your child was hurt/raped etc and they are still around (as opposed to killed, god forbid) because if you did take matters into your own hands, in the end - what good would that do your child? they would still be suffering from whatever ungodly cruelty was committed on them, and then they would potentially lose their mother in the wake of when they would be needing me more than ever. i'm not a parent yet, but this is my thought. who knows how those feelings could change in the moment though.

Yeah - but what if you had other children - how would that help them - to lose their mother with everything else going on? I'm not a mom yet, but that's what would keep me from doing anything - as much as I'd want to.

Re: Would you take matters into your own hands?

I there is a HUGE difference between people who WANT to take matters into their own hands -- I feel this is totally and completely normal -- and people who actually do.

I think it's completely normal to feel like you want to absolutely kill someone who harms you or your child. However, unless it's out of self-defense, I don't think it's all right to do it. JMHO.

There's a difference between feeling what you feel and working toward healing and crossing that line to making a very horrible and heinous decision.
