Re: what qualifications do i need to foster
I looked up a specific breed and found a few rescue sites that offer tons of information on fostering. There is a pretty in depth application process.
Here's a link to a Cairn Rescue Site and their foster program:

Kudos to you for wanting to foster. I would do a search on petfinders.com. Go to the message boards and post any questions you have there about fostering. Great site and very informative. Good luck.
ETA- Contact kill shelters about fostering. They def could you the help. Here is a link to the cacc in the city-

Re: what qualifications do i need to foster
You can also try to foster for Puppymillrescue.org It might be a bit more difficult if you do not have experience with Mill rescues, but I know they are always looking for foster homes in this area.
Congrats on deciding to foster

Re: what qualifications do i need to foster
I believe that some rescue organizations will take a look at the pets you currently have. They want to see that you keep up on vet care, heartworm preventative, etc. Also, if you are just fostering, they might want to make sure you can do it without getting so attached that your heart breaks every time a foster goes to a new home. On the other site that I go to, we call it failing at fostering 101 whenever a foster parent keeps a dog for their own or gets depressed when a dog leaves.

Re: what qualifications do i need to foster
I just realized that you asked for qualifications. When we applied with Havanese Rescue, we filled out a pretty extensive application via the website. The New York rep called me and gave a phone interview. She asked for 3 non family references and my vet. She called all of them and spoke to them. Then she did a home visit where she toured my house and hung with my furkids for a little while. Hope that helps!
