Extrinsic Rewards for Losing...

Ok, so I feel like I am all about little rewards for losing weight. I am starting tomorrow my journey (round two) to lose about thirty pounds. <----(WOW, writing that in itself really made it a reality!!!)

For example, I said to my SO, OK, so how about when I lose the first ten pounds you take me to my favorite restaurant etc.

Has anyone else here used rewards, (yes, material things), for weight loss success? Am I being petty?

I didn't use it. For me, I was so thrilled that I had lost weight, nothing could have made me happier than that.

My only reward has been new clothes to be temporarily worn on the way down the scale.

Maybe choose something not food related as a reward? If only to get out of the habit of rewarding yourself with food? Not sure if you do this, but that was definintely me at points in my life.

Congratulations on starting your journey & good luck!

i definitely use rewards because i find it really hard to stay motivated otherwise. i don't use food rewards though. in 3 more pounds i get an ipod shuffle. and when i hit my goal weight i get a $100 shopping spree at borders Chat Icon both are fun little things that aren't too extravagant but give me an extra little push.

Not at all! I lost 30 lbs about 3 years ago and have kept it off Chat Icon For my first 10 lbs, I let myself have a cadbury creme egg. Mmmmmmmmmmmm! Then I had a target weight, and when I hit it, I bought myself a coach purse. It turns out that after that weight, I didn't lose anymore, but just maintained. Now, I want to lose the rest of what I originally wanted to lose. I don't think it helped all that much in my motivation. I had health reasons for wanting to lose the weight. But what it did was make me feel better about sacrificing the things I like (like appetizers and eating out). At least with treating yourself, you can have something to look foward to after your had work (besides clothes fitting better).

Thank you all for your replies. I guess the restaurant one was a bad idea, but Ive since brainstormed a list, including the new Coach bag I want for work. Chat Icon

I guess if it works for me, I should go with it. Thanks for your support!Chat Icon
