Pilates or Yoga? Poll

Working at a University has it's advantages. We get discounted classes. I was thinking of taking either Pilates or Yoga, but I haven't decided.

Which would you take, and why? I like the idea of relaxing with Yoga, but I also like the idea of strengthening with Pilates.

Please don't move this post to fitness, as this question is more about the enjoyment of the class rather than fitness.

Re: Pilates or Yoga? Poll

I do mat Pilates and think it's OK. Now...where I go to yoga, they do Pilates on the reformer machine and that looks SERIOUS! It's very $$$$.

I LOVE yoga. I do Vinyasa and Bikram. Vinyasa flow is awesome for getting strong and toned. Holding those poses really forces you to use your muscles. Also, at times, your heart rate really gets going so you feel like it's cardio, too. It's a workout and it's relaxing, because of shivasana at the end and my teacher lights candles all over the room. Bikram is a sweat fest; you lose weight, but it's mostly water. However, you do feel detoxified....

There are other types of Yoga, too....some good for working out, others just relaxing...Also, to get the benefits of yoga, mostly flow yoga like Vinyasa, you must go a few times a week. I try to go 3.

Yogalates? That is such a cute name! Although it also sounds like a Starbucks frozen drink! Chat Icon

I love Pilates. Yoga tends to bore me.

Yoga fan here. I try to go three times per week. We are always trying new poses and it's very challenging. Definitely a workout!
