Re: northwest airlines - opinions
we took it to vegas... it was no frills, but it was on time (early, even), and smooth.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
Don't do it!
I was in Minnesota for a conference in June. The morning before I was scheduled to leave, they had MASSIVE cancellations.
Turned out, not enough pilots to accomodate the summer schedule.
I'd steer clear if you could. You never know what they're going to do

I think all airlines are no frills these days.
My mom is a flight attendant on NW. They have a pilot shortage apparently, so I wouldn't chance it if unless you are okay with a possible cancellation.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
i've flown them for a few business trips this summer - i haven't had any problems myself, but they are notorious for cancelling flights

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
DH always calls them "NorthWorst." But he really hasn't had any problems with them and he flies them pretty frequently. The same problems he has with them, he has with other carriers.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
When DH was living in Michigan for school - and I moved out there for 14 months - we were stuck taking northwest b.c they were the major carriers out there and had the best rates. Everyone out there would always call them NorthWorst - they were always late and were really unhelpful when they cancelled your flight - it would be 3 days or so before they could get you on another flight.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
My sister was coming from Oneonta to visit me in IL and even after she called to confirm that everything was okay before she drove all the way to Albany and they assured her it was, they cancelled the flight two days in a row due to lack of staff! What the heck?
She had to buy another ticket on another airline to get out here.
My suggestion.......DON'T DO IT!

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
Just had the worst experience with them trying to get home from visiting my parents...cancelled my flight from my home town to the connecting airport. When we arrived at the airport to see it was cancelled the person helping us tried to tell us to still go to the connecting airport (on a different airline) even though there would be no connecting flights available that night! Turns out that person was not even a NW employee...they had all gone home for the night! She was a grounds crew "helping out". What??? It was crazy.
She told us we could call NW reservations on the courtesy phone if we wanted anything other than that flight to the connecting airport that night. We spent 2 hours fighting with them on the phone in the middle of the airport. They eventually agreed to switch us to a Delta flight the next morning and it was smooth sailing once we were put on another airline.
I don't think any of the airlines are very good these days, but I think NW is particularly awful. I would steer clear if at all possible!

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
We use NW to go to minnesota because DH's family lives there. We really haven't had any problems and use them about four times a year.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
I didn't hate them.
If it's the best option time and pricewise, I'd say go for it.
All airlines nowadays are hit and miss depending on the day, weather, etc.
The only airline I try to stay away from at all costs is Delta, I never seem to have much luck with them.

Re: northwest airlines - opinions
Let's put it this way. My daughter was to be home (in Alaska) Monday night using NW from NY with connecting in Detroit. She's still in an airport trying to get home!
NY to Detroit was delayed 2 hrs which would mean she missed her connecting flt. So they gave her the option of being put on another flt w/Delta or going on original flt and "hopefully" be rebooked on a connecting in Detroit at some time. She took the new flt w/Delta. Her luggage however went on the original NW flt. She went to Delta to check in and they tell her. "sorry you don't have enough time to check in and board, you will never make it to the terminal. NW never should have booked you knowing the time frame you had. You need to use that phone over there to rebook your flight". She uses the phone and the woman at Delta tells her I can't help you you need to go back to NW since they made the arrangements and have them reschedule everything. SOOO she goes back to the NW counter and finds out that everyone has gone home for the day! She was sent all over the terminal until someone finally helped her and rescheduled on her a new flight for Tuesday Night with Delta going to Salt Lake City than to Fairbanks. She calls me and we heard back to the airport to pick her up. We take her Back to the airport on Tuesday...she checks in, boards the plane and sits on the runway for 2 hrs in NY. Misses ANOTHER lay over, this time in Salt Lake City. They reschedule her on a 9pm flight for Wedneday night. She freaks out, they find another flight for 11 am to Anchorage with a connecting to Fairbanks. They put her up in a hotel with 2 food vouchers. She sleeps off her anger and is now back at Salt Lake City airport waiting for her 11am flight. And praying she will be home by 10pm our time tonight. 48 hrs AFTER she should have been home
ALL this because NW booked her on another flight she couldn't get on.
As for her luggage nobody at NW knows where is it. We're all hoping it's sitting in Fairbanks airport waiting for her to pick it up. WE still can't believe NW allowed 2 suitcases on a plane without the owner. If it isn't there THAN she can put in a claim.
If you got this far...thanks for staying interested enough to continue reading.
Needless to say we have nothing nice to say about NW right now.
