Re: Infertility- the musical
Source
I dont know if this one is so bad though:
OH NO !!! Another show using “infertility as entertainment. . . And coming directly on the heels of the insensitivity of the TV series Inconceivable!!!
Yes -- However “Infertility: the musical that’s hard to conceive”, written and composed by Chris Neuner follows the compelling, poignant and heartfelt true-life stores of five “would-be” parents
Performances begin at Dillon’s (245 West 54th Street) New York City on Friday, October 14, 2005 and run through Saturday, December 31st.
Neuner’s play was previously seen as part of the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival. Writer and composer Chris and his wife Amy struggled through their own infertility trials and tribulations. Chris has put his heart and soul into the show which provides entertainment with the perfect mix of reality, humor and sensitivity.
By telling his own story, a single professional woman trying to adopt and a lesbian couple seeking the perfect sperm donor, Infertility: the musical that’s hard to conceive makes a very good start at removing the terrible stigma and taboo surrounding infertility. If ever there is a chance for those who don’t understand the pain to become sensitized to it, this play just may be the ticket they need. If you want to help those without infertility experience to have just a taste of the anguish, send them!
The cast of the show features Erin Davie (national tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber), Jenni Frost (First Lady Suite at the Transport Group), Seri Johnson, Cadden Jones, Larry Picard and Kurt Robbins (national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie).

this makes me feel like it might not be too bad. Plus I feel like if Inciid is supporting it, there has to be SOMETHING good there.

Re: Infertility- the musical
It has to be better than the show. I saw that is was supposed to be on last night, and Law & Oder came on. I heard that they might cancel it.
I just looked at the preview and it doesnt look good.

I think it got cancelled already, unless someone on ovusoft was just jumping the gun.

I also like the fact that it was written by someone who went through the stuggles of infertility. Hopefully it will be successful in removing the stigma and taboo!

Re: Infertility- the musical
I think the biggest issue I have with it is that it's a musical. Sorry but musical.... just bursting out into song, and the subject of infertility seem to be an offensive mix. When I think of musical I think of upbeat and funny. Maybe if it was a poignant play I'd be more open-minded to it.

I agree whole-heartedly. When did infertility for this couple become so entertaining ? Was it when they actually had the baby ? They started to look back and get laughs ??? Well that's great, but some people are still struggling and not ready to have their 'struggle' turn into a musical.
Oh and since when is this "a single professional woman trying to adopt and a lesbian couple seeking the perfect sperm donor" considered "infertility" ????
Maybe if they were donating all the proceeds to help couples, I would go, but other than that, I rather spend my time being entertained by something that is not so upsetting.

Re: Infertility- the musical
I don't like it but I guess it has to be somewhat ok for INCIID to mention it.
I just get upset that IF is not seen as the diesase that it is - I mean there's not a play called "Leukemia - the musical"
Disclaimer - This is meant as no disrespect to anyone with cancer or that has family/friends dealing with cancer, unfortunately cancer has affected my family too many times.

Re: Infertility- the musical
Honestly - I don't think it's something you can find remotely amusing. My best friend went through 5 years of it and when she finally got her daughter. She makes jokes now about being labeled a "spontaneous aborter" and randomnly picking out clinics on a whim but in the end.
