ever happened to you??

so, i'm a speech therapist at a school district in NJ. at the school i work at, there is me and one other speech therapist. this is my third year working here, and the other therapist has been here for over 20 years.
we are just starting making our schedule and splitting up kids. She gave me a file for a new kindergartener. In the file, there was a copy of a letter from our director to this girl's mom saying " i have received you letter requesting ( other speech therapist) as your child's therapist for this school year. unfortunately, we cannot assign specific therapists until scheduling is done".
so i am just a little bit hurt. is it just because the mom knows the other therapist has been around much longer than me? or has she heard bad things about me from other parents?? ( i've never had any complaints from my students' parents).
Has anything like this ever happened to you? where you found out a students parent requested someone else as their teacher??

That happened to me a couple times, as a teacher, and I know it stings a little, but try not to take it personally. Usually it's not that they DIDN'T want you, just that they DID want the other teacher, which could be for any number of reasons - at my school, a lot of parents wanted more established teachers because they've been around longer to establish a good reputation, and they've heard good things about them from other parents. Or they had older kids, cousins, or friends of the family that had that teacher & had a good year, so they really want their child to have the same teacher. That sort of thing goes on a lot.

Don't worry - I'm sure it's not a reflection on you as a speech therapist, and that after working with you and getting to know you, they'll be happy
