DS has a fever
He has had a cold for a few days and he felt warm today so I gave him some tylenol and a bath and it went down to around 100.4. I just check his temp again and the tylenol wore off so his temp was up to 101.5. I gave him some more tylenol and layed him down for a nap. I called the dr. and he told me to make sure he is well hydrated and to keep giving him the tylenol and if his fever hits 103 to call him and he will want me to bring him in. He has been eating and playing like nothing is wrong which I guess is a good sign. Fever's just make me so nervous. I have been checking his temp every 3-4 hours. Is there anything else I can do to get his fever down and to comfort him?
ETA: He just turned 6 months. I asked the dr if I could give him motrin but he said no, not unless it hits 105 which at that point I would probably bring him to the hospital.

We went through this with my son and the doctor told me that a fever is not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the body fighting off an infection. My son's fever went to 104.9 and I was freaking but the doctor said for a small child, it's not scary - for an adult, it warrants a trip to the ER. So don't rush to the hospital with a 105 fever, but call the doctor first.
It sounds like you are doing the right thing, checking his tempurature and keeping him hydrated. The fact that he's playing and eating is a good sign. I don't know if there is anything else you can do. I hate fevers too - they make me nervous. I hope your little guy gets better soon and his fever goes away!

Re: DS has a fever
I know it's hard, but I agree with the PP...fevers aren't all bad! They fight bacteria/viruses that normally thrive at 98.6 temps and trigger more white blood cells to be produced. all is good for the immune system!
But it is hard on mom!

Re: DS has a fever
Thanks everyone for your support! It's the first time he's really been sick and I was ok with the cold, but got nervous with the fever. His fever went down to 99.8. I gave him another dose of tylenol before bed and hopefully he will get a good night sleep.
