Has your dog ever had an ear infection or ear mites?

Chewie has some brown wax and it smells a little. He also shakes his head like its itchy. I am going to bring him to the vet. Is there anything I can do myself to help him?

Yes, Larry David did a few months ago.

The vet gave him ear drops and told us to be careful when giving him a bath. We have to put cotton in his ears when we bath him so the water doesn't get inside (which is what often causes the infections) and we have to clean his ears as often as possible.

Bailey had one and she was in a lot of pain. She shook her head alot, her one ear drooped, and there was alot of nasty brown gook.

You could try cleaning some of it out, but Chewie needs medicine

Max gets them all the time ... he is just prone to them. They usually give us an oral antibiotic and ears drops (sometime it's another antibiotic). And I end up doing a lot of cleaning.
