service learning - 5th grade
Our school traditionally does a research project in 5th grade... one of the options is always service learning... finding a problem and posing a real life solution and then attempting to implement it... the kids always go for the "easy" assignment and we wind up with 100 projects on the history of soccer, etc..
I want to inspire them this year to actually DO something. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a project that would be attainable for this age group or something of high interest to them?
Thanks!!

Re: service learning - 5th grade
How about... -implement a traffic signal in a busy area? -clean up a lot or park with trash? -plant a garden around the school and give it someone's name that has been famous from your school or has died?
I hope I am correct in what you are asking for. I just don't understand how the history of soccer relates to a service project. But that's kids.
