Help, I can't cook!!

My DH is an amazing guy and I would love to surprise him one day when he comes home from working oh so hard for me and the child. Any suggestions on how I can make him a dinner he will never forget? He really deserves a special night just for him with all the great things he does for me. I feel so bad that I really never reapy him and i think he would like this. Any help ladies??

Re: Help, I can't cook!!

well, first you have to explain what you mean by you 'can't cook'. can you fry a chicken cutlet, make an omlette? or do you not know how to boil rice?

if you really are uncomfy in the kitchen, go online, and look up recipes from 'how to boil water'. It's a foodtv show especially designed to walk new cooks through cooking entire dinners.... I think that show is on during the day Chat Icon

Re: Help, I can't cook!!

another thing that halped me (i am sorry to say) was watching rachel ray. i learned a lot of basic cooking techniques and now i cook a lot, most of the time without even using recipes! you just kind of get used to how long to cook things and what kind of flavors mix well with what - it gets easier the more you cook!!

Re: Help, I can't cook!!

Yes, give us more details! Chat Icon I have some simple recipes if you want simple. If you have some basic cooking skills and want to make a fancier meal we can work with that too.

I have a great chicken a la king recipe (it's chicken in a cream sauce) that's all done in the microwave, except for the cooking of the rice. I also have a great cornish hen recipe that's not really very hard that gets served with a rice savory. Neither recipe is too hard and it's a bit fancier.

What helped me was watching the Food Network, particulary Rachael Ray and her 30 Minute Meals. She really does show you how to do it, and I really learned so much. They give you really good tips.

Another Rachael Ray fan here. Her recipes are easy and elegant. I find her 365 cookbook to be the best since it has so many recipes. But I also really like the Open House cookbook.
