question about subbing in LI
This is not for me i teachin nyc i am actually just curious.
My dad lives in Ga ( moved about 14 years ago) and he subs down there in the elementary schools. He has a bachelors but not in teaching or anyting relate and was not a teacher here in NY. In Li do you have to be certified to sub?

Yes, on Long Island in most districts you have to be certified or at least working toward it. There is too much competetion to hire somebody who is not certified. There are plenty of certified teachers who can not find full time work and therefore plenty of certified subs.

Legally no, but like the above poster said the certified teachers that are trying to find a job will sub to get their "foot in the door" so i would say the vast majority of subs on LI are certified.

Legally no...
actually, you can sub about 30 days (not sure the exact number) without a teaching certificate but with a bachelors.
however, i don't know any districts that hire people that way. there are a million people that sub so they take qualified people first.

no, my brother is a perm sub and is not certified but is working towards his certification - which is why I guess that it is ok. he is even doing a leave replacement
