Re: Commack
Commack is wonderful
Unless you need to commute to the city, then, not as wonderful.

Re: Commack
I grew up in Commack.
It's a great town. Schools are very good, most kids go to the Commack school district, some Commack residents go to Smithtown, some to Hauppauge. Lots of AP classes, great music and athletic programs, great teachers (many of whom grew up in Commack and return to teach there).
I loved my experience growing up there. Feel free to FM me if you have questions about specific neighborhoods or schools.

I also grew up in Commack. I think I came out pretty well I wouldn't say all the teachers are great, I had some pretty not-so-great ones, but its like that in any SD. Besides I don't think any of the teachers I had are there anymore. I also thought it was difficult being a "middle class" kid among some really wealthy kids who got whatever they wanted, epecially when I was in MS. Thing I don't like about Commack is that its one big shopping center. Jericho Tpk runs right through the center of COmmack and getting anywhere on a weekend is horrendous. The taxes are very high for Commack SD, my parents pay 12K. All that being said, if we could have afforded a house in the area, we would have thought about buying there.
ETA: I commuted to the city for 2 years from there, and my dad did it for over 20. Its not that bad at all.

Re: Commack
I grew up in commack and lived there for 28 years. I loved it, it is a GREAt town with a great school district...easy access to LIE, Northern state, lots of shopping, etc
I would HIGHLY recommend it. I lived on the north side by White Castle

I grew up in Commack as well and just bought a house here. I basically agree with everything said above - I've always referred to Commack as a giant shopping center! After high school I couldn't wait to get out of this town, but after ten years I realized it's a pretty great place to live. Who woulda thought???

It's funny because I never thought of Commack as one big shopping center. I live in Levittown now and I feel that way about Levittown. Where I lived in Commack (by Wood Park Elementary), I couldn't really walk to any stores, everything was too far. The whole Target shopping center didn't exist until my senior year of HS. Levittown seems much more commericialized than Commack to me.
